I just bought a 2008 Rt and it makes funny howls in turns; is this normal with this bike? It appears to originate from the wind screen.

Tires cupped?
I'm with Train on this. Tire's worn.
Brand spanking new tires!
Some tires make more noise when leaning in turns. Which tires do you have? As for the noise seeming to come from the windshield that is just the reflection of sound coming up through the steering head area. Ear plugs or stereo with ear buds may be in your future.

It could be a be a number of things. Tires are the most likely. But ..... Does it happen at all speeds? On all road surfaces? At all speeds? Do you wear ear plugs? Does your bike have a stock wind shield? What type of helmet do you wear?
This is probably normal. Keep your tire pressure up around 38 psi or more. When turning I can hear my front tire pretty clearly from about 15 to 30 mph. The fairing tends to funnel tire sounds up the fork opening just as the shield blocks the wind noise you normally hear on other bikes. Add that to a bike that is pretty quiet to start with...

Something will be the most prominent noise. Tread noise is pretty benign.
