This is my first post anywhere. So If I am doing something incorrectly, chill. I can be a quick learner.
I have been reading and learning from you guys via different threads and post. Wow what a collection of knowledge and wit!!!
I have been a rider for nearly 40 years. A K-bike owner for about six weeks. This is bike my first BMW, and I am impressed.
My last bike was an 1800 Wing, so the bar is set.
Being a bigger guy (almost 6'2") I do not have much difficulty in slow speed handling with the K. Once the clutch is fully disengaged, it turns into curve straightening animal. I love the way it handles and have enjoyed most of its available lean angle.
Here is my issue:
I snapped the shift linkage closest to the shifter.
Disassembled, extracted remains of ball joint, reassembled.
Upon completion of said handiwork, transmission would not give me anything.
Disassemble.
Inspect.
Reassemble.
Now I only get 4th and 5th gear.
Disassemble.
Bike seems to shift whilst manually operating pinch lever on tranny.
Reassemble.
Same results.
Disassemble.
Even though I know that I did not adjust the linkage during the initial fix, I lengthened the aforementioned linkage by 2 full turns this time.
Result, I now have Neutral 2nd and 3rd gears. But 4th and 5th have gone missing.
Sooo, Can someone point me in the right direction to adjusting this thing, Damn.
I have read many post and threads, and feel that the transmission itself is fine.
It was shifting fine prior to the linkage break.
Love the forum, like the K bike. But it, as well as my lack of Beemer knowledge is frustrating me.
Any input ? Please ??
