Hi everyone. I just bought a 2000 K1200LT today. It has 25,000 miles on it and it looks practically brand new. I rode it around (Virginia) today, and it is an amazing bike! My other bike is a Suzuki V-Strom DL 650, so this is a huge difference! Anyway, I wanted to introduce myself and say hi. I've been told that this is a great site, and I'm looking forward to meeting people and learning lots of stuff from all of you LT veterans.

Tim

Greetings,
Welcome and enjoy the vast knowledge base present here. If you have a repair issue, the solution is here.

I also have a 2000 LT, I purchased 2 years ago w/5500 miles and pristine. Now we have 28k and loving every minute on the road. Basic maintenance and regular oil changes keep the ride dependable.

In the past 50 years I have had numerous bikes but none have come close to the ride of this KLT. Just back from Ventura, CA area and the temps were showing 113 on the heat gauge, no problem with the engine temp.

I could go on but welcome, enjoy and happy/safe riding.

+1 on this! My LT is a 2001, which I have had for a few years. From the looks of your picture, you have some "toys" to add. You'll love it though, and as you add each farkle, you'll become even more in love with that bike!

You're going to love this site, as essentially anything you'll ever need to know about the bike is located here, and you'll make some great friends to boot.

Welcome to the forum Tim. That is a great color. I'm a new owner & member myself and have found this site to be a wealth of info. Do you know if the 24k service was done before you got the bike?

Thanks, bamarider. Yes, the 24,000 mile service was done before I got it... but it was done almost three years ago! The bike had only been ridden around 540 miles in the past three years. Thanks also to everyone else for the welcome!

Congratulations on your new LT. You will love it. I just returned from a 4000 mile trip on mine, love it, it spoils me and will continue to do so I hope. This site has been tremendously helpful to me when I needed either farkles or road/weather information. Everyone just pitches in, so if I can be of any service please let me know.

Hi Tim and welcome!

I still consider myself as a novice. I rode some when I was young (40 years ago). Now 58.

Went to the MSF school. Learned that I had no clue as to how to ride a motorcycle.

Rented a V-strom 650 over several months. Great bike, by the way.

Bought the exact same scooter you did. Same year. same color. About the same miles. It scared me at first. Wouldn't ask my wife to go with for 6 months.

Now, I'm so happy I bought the K1200LT. What a great machine. Put 6000 miles on her in 1 year. Still have to pay attention at low speeds in parking lots.

Dropped her twice. Once putting her up on the center stand wearing gym shoes while washing her. No damage. The next time standing still on a sloped parking lot at a national park with my wife on the back. She just stepped off like I told her to before her first ride. Again no damage. The point is, it seems that almost everyone drops this bike and almost every time it's when standing still. She is a bit top heavy.

Changed the wind screen to the ZTechnik and did an engine and final drive oil change. Had an issue with the cruise control. Easy fix thanks to the great folks on the forum.

You won't regret your decision.
