Hello, My current bike is a 2004 GL1800 Goldwing, but I am wanting to
get back on a Beemer. ( I had a 2003 K1200 RS)
The reason I went with a Wing, was because I heard there were problems
with the LT final drives. In trying to aviod that, I ended up with
a Goldwing that had a frame recall, and had to be re-welded.
Has the problem with the final drives been fixed on the new K1200 LT's?
Thanks

I'm not as knowledgable as most of the other members, but this place has a plethora of information available. This is the result for a quick search 'rear drive' I just did:
http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/search.php?searchid=306318

Personally, the chances of having a rear drive fail wouldn't have kept me from buying my bike. I've heard the figures are around <5% of machines from 99-02 or whatever the exact numbers are. It's not a common occurance. I'll replace it if I need to. I'm still convinced the LT is the perfect bike for what I wanted and the enjoyment I get out of it far outweighs the tiny chance I may have to spend a few bucks on a mechanical fault. Just my opinion.

if you look around in this site, you'll find a survey of final drive failures by year, mostly the failures ended by mid 2002 production. Rare in anything built after that.
You'll find the LT in a class by itself. The 05 and after is a little easier to handle at parking lot speeds - keep the r's up to at least 2000

I should have stayed with BMW and gotten the LT, I screwed up!
I have ridden the LT before. The dealer gave me a loaner for the
weekend when I had maintenance done on my RS a few years ago.

Every bike has its benefits and disadvantages. Model year '03 and beyond seem to be fine with regard to the rear drive. If you feel that strongly about it, sell your wing and buy and LT. There are plenty of bikes on this site for sale. One comes to mind on the east coast. It is an '03 and looks great at a great price.

Good Luck
