Use a syringe to back fill the wheel circuit reservoirs from the calipers. This is the only reliable way to do that part. We have just had two people struggle after changing out the ABS units and this solved the problem. Then once the reservoirs are full do a power bleed (key on) from the reservoir to the calipers. The front half of the rear reservoir is shared between the rear wheel and rear control circuit. The rear half is stricly for the front wheel circuit.
Now having said that you may still have fluid in the reservoirs and in the lines(non-pressure hoses) to the ABS unit pump chambers. in that case you could just do a wheel circuit power bleed. Run a long piece of tubing from the caliper back to the reservoir and open the bleeder on the caliper and run the pump until all air bubbles are gone. Make sure that the level neverdrops too low in the reservoir.
The control circuits are bled the conventional way with power off. There is a sequence to the ports and the order you bleed them. I'll see if I can find my illustratons and post them.
Hi there! I was one of the unfortunate guys who had to replace the ABS pump, my 2002 is INTEGRAL, I was very afraid of the process, but in the end won the battle. ( I was sitting on the fence then nudged off it by JZeiler I bought the PDF manual from some online source, make sure you get the one that has the ABS supplement as well.
I followed the direction in the manual using a cheap $3 syringe that I got at Wally world to fill reservoirs. I then bled the control screws, there are 6, in the order that was clearly spelled out in the manual, then did the wheel circuits, which were also detailed.
Without the words of support from John, I would have given up and went to the dealer. As long as you follow the manual, you can do it yourself too. If I can, anybody can!
