Welcome, I too became the proud next owner of a 2000 KLT back in January. There is a lot of information on this site. Pretty much all you will ever need to know about the KLT is available via searches on this site. Take advantage of it. If you have a good set of wrenches you will do fine maintaining your new machine yourself.
I believe the reason the K1200LT has fallen so quickly in price is the cost of regular maintenance via the dealer network. You can easily surpass the value of the entire machine if you have a major event. Parts are cheep compared to paying someone too turn the wrenches.
got one of the better at high speed models, better front rake than newer ones.
Also ABS controller is repairable and does not disable brakes.
If lines are old at all, go spiegler before the old lines kill abs controller.
