I am pretty new to the K1200 LT...bought my new to me '99 last week...got on it the next day and rode it 625 miles to Florida. Easily my longest one day ride & have to say that it is a pretty nice platform. Even riding geared up in 95° heat for 12 hours...I arrived tired, but in better shape than I expected to be. True cruise control sure makes a difference!

I understand that the bike is pretty well equipped, however I am used to my R1100 RT where I have plenty of places to mount accessories...like a GPS. So, my question is...where and how do folks mount things like that. Pics would be a plus

You can mount all manner of farkles. I have GPS, Radar Detector, and FRS Radio mounted.

Some guys prefer the RAM mount (on the handle bar), but I prefer having gear more in line of sight.

After a couple of different trys, I ended up using 3M Dual Locks (heavy duty velcro) to stick the GPS right on the 'horn' in front of the radio display. Tied the power into the map light.

Emphatic +1 for BMW CoPilot and for Brett.

Use a PanaVise mounted to the CoPilot, I find it MUCH better and stable than the Ram Mount.

I had an 02 and at the time, one of the preferred way to mount a GPS was on a metal frame in the H pattern through the dash light. It went through the dash and was attached to the windshield raising frame.

Some of the mounting frames might still be available. It was out of the way, there was power available and it was very close to the line of sight. I had a StreetPilot mounter there and a replacement 2820.

If your plan is to mount several items, I'd go with the shelf.

+1 I have a GPS mounted with Ram Mounts adn have lots of room for other things but do not use it. Just a GPS but it also blocks the sun glare on the dash.

Thanks for all of the helpful suggestions. I'll check out the BMR shelf a little closer...but I have to say that I wasn't looking to spend that kind of money. Maybe I'm just not looking at it right...I'll probably spend about that much going fishing tomorrow

I investigated it, and then realized I've bought entire entertainment centers for less than the price of that one little shelf.

I bought an inexpensive garmin GPS that comes with a suction cup mount for the windshield of a car, It suctions right to the stingray lid, and has never come off ever. I have a standard 12v socket mounted under the seat, and run the power wire along the stingray to under the seat. Yes it does fit the bill of being cheap, it doesn't talk through my intercom, it can be hard to see in the sun sometimes (I'm working on a cheap hood),
It can be removed easily when I stop somewhere, It works great, and fits my budget perfectly!

I use my car GPS mounted to the LT's windshield with the suction cup. Yes, it has come off a couple of times but that was only when I hadn't gotten enough spit applied yet.
