Once a year my wife and take off on our bikes for the mountains. Love it up there. Never ridden out west as yet. Been out there many times just not on two wheels. I have to admit after about a week of going up and down and all around I`m ready to get outta Dodge and get back down to Florida where I can plant my feet firmly on the ground. A flat piece of ground can be at a premium up there. I live in a small town 25 mi. east of FT. Myers. Out in the country I can find plenty of twisty curvy roads if I want`em. I can even ride up into Highlands county and go up and down a few hills if desired. So them jokes about Florida being flat and straight aren`t always true. But, if one didn`t know where to ride I can see why that conclusion could be made. Riding in the mountains also can require a rider to remain more focused mentally. After ten hours this can be a bit draining. This year we`re gonna give The Ozarks a try. Can`t wait. And when it`s all over with I`m sure I`ll be glad to get back down to Americas wang.

As one who lives and rides 90% mountain twisties, I will take the tire scubbin, neck stretchin, wear your sorry ass out type of riding any day over twisties in the flat lands.

Nothing quite like going from under 1000 feet to near 10,000 in under 200 miles. Add in a few loops threw the mountain pass's in a days outing of @ 400 miles or so, and you can witness first hand some of most spectatular country in north america. And all this on a days ride from your own front yard.

Yea, Florida has some nice roads ... But out west with a choice of mountain twisties or valley twisties ... THE MOUNTAINS RULE :yeah:

I agree. Been in Florida many times, but greatly prefer the CA mountains. I am leaving CA soon though (if escrow on my home holds up this time), but planning to stay with mountains, with lakes thrown in and move to the Knoxville area. Gonna miss SoCal terribly, but the added lakes along with the admittedly much smaller mountains may make up some of the difference. After living in CA so long, the eastern mountains now seem kinda anemic.

To each his own. I lived near Savannah, GA for two years. I made numerous trips down to central Florida. In that whole area I never found a place where I would want to ride. I'll take the North Carolina hill country/mountains any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Florida has some great things going for it but riding is not one of them (unless you ride a cruiser).

I've said this here before,
y'all come on down and I'll show you some roads you never thought you'd find in Florida,
just because you've been to Disney world and Daytona don't mean you've seen Florida,

I've been in every state (except Alaska and Hawaii) on my motorcycle
and they've all got something going for them (even Kansas)
Although it may take me a little while to remember just what that is.

I think the California mountains are awesome, so are the Rockies, the Ozarks,
the Hill Country and the Blue Ridge and I love to ride in them all.
Still one of the "most" favorite parts of every trip is coming back into Florida.

I've lived in the Netherlands, Texas, Colorado, California and Michigan
and out of all of those places I decided to make Florida my "home"

We all have different likes, dislikes and riding preferences.
If y'all don't like "Florida" then my best advise is "don't go there"
I love it and I ain't leaving here. :thumb:

Been in Florida 20 years. Was raised in MI. Could possobly explain the reason why I settled in a warm climate. One that while may not be as scenic as many regions, allows me to ride all year long. We had the house for sale last year. I was going to transfer with the company I work for to Greenville, SC. One morning at breakfast my wife burst into tears. Very uncharacteristic for her. It was about leaving the grand kids, the kids and the magazine behind. She writes for Full Throttle(Kruzin` With Katie). Needless to say, the sign was removed and nothing more was mentioned. Things could be worse. I do really like FL and I haven`t seen a winter in a long time. Their`s definitely a part of me that envies those up in the mountains. The south west would be just too far away from the family. That would the place where their`s mountains and warm weather year round. Oh well, the sun will be coming up tomorrow.
