I tried searching for previous posts regarding mounting a GPS on a LT, but I must not be doing something right. I would think this has been discussed before. I also have a post in the GPS site.
I bought a Garmin 2610, I'd like to mount it on my 04 LT.
What is the best place (or easiest) to mount it?
I have a autocom system on my bike, but have never used it. (there when I bought it.)
Thanks,
Jeff

Thanks, that looks pretty good to me. I would also like to install a CB. How did you mount the CB? Are there enough open fuses for everything?
Where did you run the wiring? Where did you find a marine mount?
Do you have a speaker system in your helmet? I also see 120,000 mi. Very impressive. I'm sorry for all the questions, I'm not particularly mechanically inclined, to say the least.
Thanks again,
Jeff

Try this: http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18027&highlight=2610

That's what I did originally. The L bracket deal ended up having the GPS too high in front of gauges and lights, so I went the the supplied little oval mount, taped to stingray with 3M VHB auto trim tape. It's still there, nearly a year later, working fine and is simplicity defined. the hard part is running the cables. See my post. I have since re-routed the cables when I had the stingray off to get to air/fuel filters.

There are plenty of other ways too, though. Go to the GPS section and search for 2610, 2720, 2820. I think all of those are same basic family.

good luck. PM me if I can be of more help.

GPS Mount

I have a 05 LT
Ram Mount makes one replaces the clutch cover or the brake fluid cover.
I have a Garmin 2620 and it works great.
Ram Mount has other mount for lt also.

GPS mount

I used the RCU shelf like CFEL did. Works well and it is in a great line of sight position to be comfortable uising the built in XM radio as well. Also the V-1 radar detector fits beside it. All hard wired in.

Where did you guys get that shelf? I like the way it looks. I'd like to add a CB +/or cell phone. I did see a shelf at a accessory website, but it was $135, or something like that. If your shelf was a little less than that it would look even better. ;)

I found out the new St Louis BMW dealer is a autocom dealer also, so I may have to go in there just to have him look at my bike and tell me what system I have. I know it's a autocom, but not much more than that.

Thanks again,
Jeff

I think any of the VENDORS who support this site could help... Go out to the "Home" page and click on one of the vendors... I think you'll be pleased.

I like the RCU shelf because I only needed to replace two bolts with longer ones to mount.... no drilling required.

I think the BMR shelf offers a great balance to the LT.. If you are going to go "farkle crazy" you'll NEVER have enough space...

The BMR gives me room to mount other items to left, right or in front on the shelf. It also removes easily due to only needing to loosen two bolts.. Note: since I have an SAE trailer connector for the electrical connections.... that makes it easy to remove..

Hi,

I just installed an autocom system on my 07LT and by speaking to teh factory in UK I found that they now produce a BLUETOOTH dongle for their system. If your cell phone has bluetooth its easy to 'tune' the pair together and never have to reach for the phone again. It automatically sets itself to 'autoanswer by the way.

Safe miles, big smiles on the LT

2610 on BMR shelf

some pics of 2610....

My install on an 05 here
http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=95725&postcount=18

notes I used to help wire it to map light here
http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=94168&postcount=14

audio is patched into my Autocom (an older mono system) but works fine, although very loud on vol setting 1, so I keep GPS audio turned off most of the time and just listen to the bike radio/CD through the autocom helmet speakers

phone is connected to the autocom too, autoanswer

love where it sits.... hope this helps
cheers

What's all this c**p on your bike?
I thought you were supposed to enjoy your ride not the toys :)
I was thinking about a good Radar/Laser detector, but some people say that the laser part doesn't work well through the windshield - is that true?

Gotta be careful firing the laser through the windshield, it could reflect back and burn a hole in your jacket.

I built my own shelf following the general design of the RCU. But because of the low position of the GPS, my shelf is more a "U" shape wraping around the sides and back of the GPS. 2 small carbon fiber supports were attached off the corners to cut down on road vibration shaking items attached to shelf.
