www.motorcycle-usa.com is saying in their Euro Gossip column that BMW is at the point with the LT that they are testing the aero dynamics of the luggage systems. I hope they are right. That would seem to indicate that they are moving along with plans to develop a new touring bike.

("Despite initially denying it, BMW has now admitted that they have the engines for the G650Xcountry made in China. This has enabled them to reduce the price of this model in the German dealers by 100 Euros. However, people are now asking if other models will be similarly outsourced, risking quality control issues, which might explain the rumor about cheap Boxer-engined bikes that is circulating. Apparently, the idea is to offer lower-spec machines as an entry level to the brand which has, up to now, been acknowledged as a premium one. (If this is true perhaps they should just by out Ural and stick a roundel on the tank!").
What a bummer.

I also found this ...

If you still see BMW as a touring machine, leaked news of a new LT tourer may be music to your ears, especially if you think big is beautiful. A capacity of 1850cc from a straight-Six motor is rumoured to be under consideration for a new long-legged tourer planned for a 2010 debut. Watch this space for more news as and when it filters out!

I dont see why they bother for a mere 100 euro!!
Imagine the loss of name...made in china! sounds a heck of a lot cheaper and lesser quality then made in germany!

We all know that german engineering and production is at the best and highest level and allthough they properly audit the chineese plant it will still come back and bite them in the ass!

I for one would buy the all made in germany version even if it cost a thousand euro more...that is if I ever wanted to trade down! :bmw:

"We have mentioned before that there is the distinct possibility of BMW

producing a new tourer in the near future, possibly with a brand-new six-cylinder motor powering it.

Well, sources now suggest that it has actually reached the design stage and aerodynamic tests are taking place on the fixed luggage system. It appears to have aero-foils on it for stability, a horizontal one on the top box and vertical ones on the panniers. No doubt these are for stability, but should give the new LT a very futuristic look!"

I find it hard to fathom that BMW would give any consideration to an inline 6-cylinder engine. Honda had massive problems with the CBX overheating and frying valves on the middle two cylinders. Liquid cooling would be the only way to address that issue; too bad Honda didn't think of it.

A slight bore size increase and stroking the current 1200cc LT engine would easily garner a 200-300 cc increase. This, and a few fuel system/timing tweaks, could easily produce 140-150 HP; shave 200 lbs and viola......you have a BMW GLT!

Heard in Daytona from a BMW official. No earlier than 2010. It will be lighter.
That was all I could get out of him. He slipped telling me that.
