OK got my Jensen installed-added an aux cable to the handlebar, put a small MP3 player there, IPOD connecter in the oddments box- fixed the antenna (deoxIT is your friend) and have pioneer speakers for the rears, right side is a bit noisy- and here is my question!

The air temp sensor was unplugged and poorly taped up, it got filled with rain water, causing all sorts of very odd issues. Now I DO like how it runs sans sensor, yes I run premium, but I have added resistors to these types of sensors on other bikes in the past as a poor man's mild tune. Has anyone tried this, or have good information on how the air temp sensor works IE resistance values versus air temp?

What year is your LT? The temp sensor disconnect should only be used on 99 and 2000 (maybe early 2001) models.
Were you trying to solve for the engine hesitation in hot weather?

Mine is 99, and no hesitation, just tried riding with it plugged in VS unplugged- got signifigantly more MPG with it plugged in, might just do the switch thing so when in the black hills got power on hwy economy.. bike has a k&n filter which works well.

So, unplugging the temp sensor on the upper left side of the radiator is something that will make the hesitation in hot weather go away on '99 models? I thought my fuel injectors were starting to get fussy!

How is that K&N filter making a difference....mpg or performance?

There are threads on this, unplugging the AIRBOX temp sensor or clipping a wire but yes doing so eliminates hesitation when it's hot out.

I posted this on another (similar) thread.......but I copied it here because I think that it's relevant to the discussion.
Soooo....for what it's worth........

The Clymer manual says that the air inlet temp sensor is used by the Motronic to determine air \ fuel mixture - and - ignition timing.

The sensor is an " NTC " ( negative temperature coefficient )
The resistance of the sensor decreases as temp increases.

So I guess that the logical conclusion is that by showing the Motronic an open circuit, it's seeing high resistance......a very cold air box.......no need to retard timing to avoid detonation ?

In theory, you could add a resistor to the low (return) side of the sensor circuit, to lower the perceived temperature of the inlet air.

I believe this only applies to '99 and early 2000 LT's. ??

Yeah, I am waiting for my Clymer, gotta love Amazon! I have added resistors to other bikes air temp sensors after exhaust and intake upgrades, worked awesome with a minimal amount of fiddling. Power commanders and such are OK but usually really hurt fuel economy- which is astonishingly good on the LT!- so I will do some fiddling and post my results, we have a nice badlands ride planned for this month after the rally good time to test it out. The K&N does make the engine a bit noisier but does seem to work fine, it was in there when I bought the bike.

Just removed my temp sensor plug, had not seen huge hesitation issues, but power does feel a little better with it removed.
I also noticed the same, fuel economy went from 40 dow to 30 or 32 mpg
I think a switch is a great idea,a highway switch, then once going mpg will go up and airtemp not an issue while moving anyway
