I want to make my trunk a carrier for my fox terrier and I noticed there are quite a few rivets (12) that would have to be drilled out on the hinges and be replaced with screws plus wiring if I just modify a used lid. I am just not sure what would be faster to change out, the lid only or complete box. I am thinking getting a complete used top box would be the way to go and keep the original as is. Will a trunk from any year work on my 2005 LT? Also I never had it off yet and am wondering how much time and trouble would be involved switching them around ? I just plan to cut a hole in a lid for him to stick his head out and look around.

thanks for any advice

The top case takes about 10 minutes to remove and that includes removing the passenger seat to get to the two sets of wires, inner liner and reel cable attachment and then the 4 bolts.

Seems to take a little longer to reattach.

Personally, I'd either fabricate a carrier from the bottom up (four attachment points on the bottom or get an old used one and modify it.

Yes, that makes sense. Once I have the trunk off I could probably just mount a regular dog carrier back there much cheaper. Will just have to figure out how to get some additional brake lights on it.
Thanks for the reply !

I guess I missed that one ???

Mitt cannot do anything right it would seem, at least according to the liberal media.
But as far as being very sucessful, wealthy, intelligent and having a hot wife I accept !

Seems 8 or 9 years ago while going on vacation with 5 kids and wife they did not have room in the station wagon. So they strapped the dog carrier to the roof of the wagon and drove off. Mitt said dog didn't seem to care, animal rights groups were beside themselves.

I've often thought about bolting the big dog carrier to the top of my trailer.... It would fit just fine... I don't see anything wrong with it as long as the dog is enjoying it...

Not much different than taking the dog in the car until you wreck... Then... Well, I'm not so sure that it's a good idea and that's why I never did it...

Good luck, Yes, just remove the trunk completely... Put an LED brakelight from the auto parts onto the back of the carrier and wire it up....

Bolt the carrier to the LT with the trunk bolts..

Off you go...
