Sounds like we both found good deals Brian. I'm curious about how many miles you got out of your old rear Metzeler? Here in San Diego we have grooves cut into our freeways and these grooves seem to really chew the tread off of tires.I'm averaging about 7500 miles before I'm into the wear bars.

I usually run Avons. I went Metz this time because I am going to CCR, and running a BBG ride on the way home. Avons wilt mightily on a hot slab at high speed.
With Metz, I was getting about 8K miles, so you're about right on the wear. Avons, getting only 6-7,000 miles (they're a softer compound).
I ride mostly two lane twisties here in the Sierra Foothills. She's a big girl, and eats the tires.
Avons: rule the twisties, wet roads, and tar snakes.
Metz: Not as well for above categories, but goes higher mileage, handles the hot slab much better.
Now this has degenerated to a tire thread... LOL
