OK

I removed the fuel tank and airbox. I unhooked the radiators but did not disconnect the hoses. The right hand radiator was a pig to unhook but the left popped out easily.

I removed the cable ties which hold the wiring to the fuel rail to ensure they didn't become taught when lowering the engine. I left the throttle bodies and fuel rail in place.

I managed to disconnect the cables to the starter and alternator before lowering the engine.

I secured the rear frame to the garage roof joists and also placed axle stands under the rear frame.

After removing the transmission mounting bolt from the frame I then wound down the jack supporting the engine. It lowered beautifully with no dramas.

I'm now ready to release the transmission from the engine.

Can anybody help with a couple of questions?

1. The manual says withdraw the clutch actuation rod before you remove the transmission. My rod seems reluctant to withdraw (story of my life ;) )
Before I use a little more force is there anything holding it in place which I might damage?

2. I want to make up some dummy screws to slide the transmission along as I remove it so that I do not put any stress on the transmission input shaft. How long should I make these 8mm screw shafts?

the rod should pull straight out, probably a bit of resistance from the felt wrapped around the rod, just pull hard and it will slide out. looks like you have everything under control. If you have another set of hands you can just pull the tranny right out without going through the trouble of making sliding rods, the tabs are only about 1 cm long, tap each side of the tranny with a wooden mallet to loosen it up so it will slide right out.
