Being a recent LT owner, I would love to read some general principles folks use to position their windshield. Clearly changing conditions are my main issue: rain, gusty winds, high/low speeds, city vs country, mountains etc. Thanks.

This truly is like asking what kind of underwear to buy. Some guys like looking through their shield all of the time ... frankly, I don't. I believe that you should have your windshield as LOW as possible at all times, and raise it for comfort. You be the judge. Only you know what's best for you.

Sorry if this isn't quite the answer you're looking for.

When riding highway I position the windhield up untill the wind goes just over my head. But when in traffic or slower hot days I lower it fully.

There's ur answer^^

When I rode a cruiser with a fixed screen I had to find a sweet spot of comprimise. Started at tip of nose level: Adust low for clear field of view but get buffeting, sand and bugs; Adjust high to reduce buffeting then try to see through the bug guts on the screen.

With the LT I adjust on the fly to suit the conditions. I was suprised to find that I make adjustments frequently. In fact I find myself lowering it all the way for best view when I come off the freeway to wiggle through the downtown streets. It's so convenient and effective that you'll find yourself moving it up and down a lot to suit you.

When 1-up, almost always down.

With wife on-board, almost always up!

Hi David,
Welcome to the LT forum -- THE most amazing source of information for the LT imaginable. There are guys here that were born riding them I think. :)

I'm certainly no expert on the subject but will tell you how I've done it (so far).

In Rain I usually put it up to stay out of the rain -- amazingly dry pocket there while rolling. I don`t really adjust it for gusty or windy conditions -- just sort of stick with my default highway position which is high enough to stop wind from buffeting my head, but low enough that I look over it.

My lovely wife does appreciate it a little higher when she`s with me cause she gets a little wind I don`t.

When in the twisties, I usually have it slightly lower as I look around corners I`m heading into.

When in town I generally keep it a little lower .. particularly when it`s warm.
You`ll find all your settings too after a few rides.

Are you using the stock BMW screen? Short or tall one? When I got my LT it had the short BMW screen and I made a switch to a ztechnik screen more so for my wife. She says she gets a much better ride than with the stock BMW screen.
My problem is that unless I put the seat in the higher position, I can't see over the ztechnik screen even with it in the full down position.
I think that the construction and the visual clarity of the ztechnik fair surpasses the stock BMW screens.

I like to look over the windscreen rather than looking thru it. I may put the windscreen at the highest level when having an extended conversation on the GMRS or when I have a telephone conversation (which is not too often).

Ditto on whomever said: start out with all the way down and raise to comfort level. Usually keep the wind wings about half way thru their rotation except in traffic. Could not survive the LT without this website.

Good input folks, even with underwear -- smile. I have the tall shield. And yes I am familiar with Americade although it will feel kind of strange riding in there not on my Ultra Glide. :(

This past weekend I was in the "high country" of CT and the blasts of high wind was a real challenge on my 08 LT. I am use to it on a HD so I was wondering if folks played with the up/down of the windshield, which is what I did. Naturally it will take some trial and error.

I 'fiddle' with mine a lot, and generally try to keep it as low as possible.

FWIW, I generally set mine to block the wind so I can enjoy the radio. I don't mind looking through it at all. Except in poor weather and then I may lower it so I can see over it. Same goes for sundown, as the glare hits it I look over it. And if I am hot, I lower it for more cooling effect.

As Hollywood says, it really depends on which windscreen you have.
With the Cee Bailey (reverse flip on top) the airflow is lifted so.............
I'm always looking over and full down when alone, 2" up with Karen on back.
