Hard to get current information, as i realize there are posts about this from earlier times. I have a great 2006 k1200lt, and love every aspect of it. I'm fanatical about locking it and setting the alarm, but very frustrated with the key fob. You have to pretty much be a foot or two away, and positioned just right for it to activate. I've installed new batteries and it makes no difference. I've tried holding the remote to my head (seems stupid, but some people say it works) didn't help at all. Thought about replacing the batteries with two 2016 as suggested in other forums, but am afraid to fry the electronics.
Does anyone have a good hack or mod to increase the effective distance of this remote. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Joe, my 2006 was about the same and annoyed me.
My two K1600's have a much farther activation distance.

OK are there any RF emitters nearby when you are setting the alarm? Some interference can be expected in the cluttered RF environment we now live in. Stores with auto doors are among the culprits. I get it too depending on location. When all else fails hold the FOB right under the Top Case latch as the alarm is under the top case. DO NOT add additional batteries to the FOB as it will not help and yes you risk frying the electronics by doubling the voltage!

Oh I have a 2004 BMW 330ci and yes if I hold my key to my head I can double the distance to lock or unlock the car. Never tried it with the LT.

I literally have to hold the fob pointing directly down and physically on the seat...and even then, it's a 50/50 crap shoot that it will work on my 2005. Changing batteries accomplished about as much as trying to get clean taking a mud shower.

I read a story where it said to hold the fob when activating, under your chin (similar to what John Z says to hold it close to your head), as that will significantly improve the fob's range. Can't try it on my LT fob as they went bye-bye with the bike, and am happy with the range of the GTLE's fob - I just tested it from about 50 ft away, through a closed garage door and it worked perfectly, without using the under the chin trick... :bmw:

Seems Auto key fobs work much better in any circumstances. I've tried all those tricks with no help. I was hoping someone might have a hack to the receiver (which i can't seem to find), such as installing a larger antenna, or even repositioning it. I've looked where it's supposed to be, and all i find is the alarm. Is this where the receiver is also located? I guess it's something i'll just have to live with. It never fails but sometimes it's embarrassing when trying to set it and i look like a dork moving around the bike lol..

Yeah the antenna for the receiver is inside the potted alarm - no way to get to it. Go out in the middle of nowhere and try it just to rule out RF interference in your normal area. There is also a battery inside as well.
