Hello all ... a question to determine the straight scoop regarding lowering the rear brake pedal.

I have a peg lowering kit and now have to flex my ankle a bit too much to put my toe on the pedal ... and it is too high to just rest my toe on the pedal without engaging the brake. The dealer told me that the rear brake pedal height is factor set, basically in a permanent position, with there perhaps being less than 1/4" adjustability play. Conversely, I have gotten the impression from other K1200LT riders that it can be substantively adjusted.

In looking at previous posts ... I found some indicating that a pedal modification is the solution, another pointing to an extended brake pedal made by Ilium as the answer (looks promising), and yet another indicating there is no need to do either ... that the rod at the master cylinder (followed by tail light activation adjustment) can be adjusted to raise/lower the pedal.

If is can be adjusted, I would rather do that. If it cannot, I'll just spring for the Ilium part. Anyone know the definitive scoop on this topic? Thanks in advance for the feedback.

If you adjust it with the master cyl. rod, make sure there is free play in the pedal after you are done. Otherwise the brake will drag.

Like Ron said, you have some adjustment available but must ensure you have that free play at the master cylinder or you will have problems. Also re-check the adjustment for the brake light switch.

You will need a new pedal. I had to buy one after the lowering kit. I can't think of the company at the moment that makes the part, but am sure someone will know. They may be one of our advertisers.

If you go the pedal route let me (us) know! I have lowered the pedal as much as possible. While its an improvement over the OEM position, its still not ideal as I have to pick my foot up to place it on the brake. With that said, it does not take long to re-train your mind... I have no problems with it now, but like you, did when I first installed the kit.
Your in luck as I have a donor bike in the garage. First picture is with and the last is without...

Years ago I did a modification of my brake pedal and posted pics of it. I did a search but can't find that post anymore.

I had added the suburban mach peg lowering kit and had done the stock adjustment without achieving the result I wanted. I had looked at the aftermarket brake pedal available at the time and thought it was kinda spensive.... I ended up taking off the stock pedal doing a cut and weld on it giving it a much larger range of adjustment.

If you're interested in a pic of a home-brewed mod, I'll take another pic and post it.

I am interested...I would like some adjustment but have not messed with it yet
I do like the peddels being lower and forward..

Okay, here are a couple of pics of my brake pedal mod. I did this years ago, it works for me. I did not do any mod of the shift lever after adding the Subarban Mach. peg lowering kit. In the twisties I like to feather my rear brake entering the turns; keeping my toe on the brake pedal all the time with the pegs lowered and the stock brake pedal was an uncomfortable, strained position. Consequently I did this brake pedal mod.

Many folks will say they don't like the way things scrape with pegs and pedals lowered but I don't have a problem, and I don't ride all that slow. Maybe I have my shocks cranked up a little higher, but mostly I don't go for aggressive lean angles. When to toe of my boot hits the pavement I back off the throttle a little.

I think you can see from the pics what I did. I cut the brake pedal into two pieces. I welded a small metal plate to the arm of the brake pedal that is attached to the master cylinder. I drilled a couple of holes in the arm that the pedal is attached to. These holes line up with any two of the four threaded holes in the small plate I welded on.
This allows three positions of the pedal, normal stock level, and a couple of positions below that.
Oh, and you can see I don't wash my bike much too. :histerica

Rear brake pedal?

Damn, I'd never want to give my wife a pedal connected to the brakes. She'd always be slowing us down.

Thankfully, my LT doesn't have one. Is it optional? :cool:

Have you checked the Suburban machinery and the Illium websites ? One of those used to market a lowered version of the rear pedal.

Just found it at Sierra BMW for $95.00.

Thanks I will place an order tomorrow. This should help as I have to raise my foot too heigh to reach the read brake comfortable.
