I get that at about 4,200 rpm on my 05. Just avoid that RPM. It is called the "K whine". Older bikes hit a bit lower in the RPM around 3,800.

Sometimes a couple of pieces of bodywork are situated "just so", and at certain RPMs a kind of harmonic resonance is created when they rub together. I've had it on 2 LTs ('05 and '09), and it has come and gone on both of them. In my case it depended on who did the maintenance, how the pieces were fitted back together, etc. Completely normal.

OK I am a brand new 2000 K1200LT owner(less than a week) and hear a loud whinning noise around 55-60 MPH. If I speed up it almost goes away. Any ideas?
At 55-60 mph you should just be shifting from 2nd to 3rd

Definitely the K-Whine. On mine it appears in top gear between 3450 and 3500 RPM. This happens to be at 70MPH so I try to go a bit quicker than that and it goes away.
Expected behaviour.
Just ride and enjoy.
