Purchased a new (09) LT last Spring. I started riding at 14, now 62.
I have owned scores of Bikes, my first BMW was 2000 R1200C.
I 'v had an 05 RT, and an 08 Adventure. I was afraid of the size of the LT,
Max BMW let me test drive one last April, and I purchased it immediately. Wish I had
done it 5 years ago. I'm interested in the new 1600 GTL, but don't want to wait.
I have done some long trips (Venice FL to Rangeley Maine - Gaspe Bay) but
this will be the longest by far.

I am interested in opinions regarding
Street Guard 3, or other gear
Boots?
radar detector
Mic-o-pegs
tire pressure monitor
Tires, Avon or BT020, are BIAS best
Thanks, in advance. I have been wanting to do this for years, tried to
arrange for other friends to go, always "something came up"
So, I'm going alone. I plan to leave in the middle of May. The trip back will be through
Canada. (Canadian Rockies - Calgary, Winnipeg, Montreal, then Rangeley)
Any "must sees"
Thanks

I can comment on the Avon Ultra 2 radials, I have had them for 7K which includes a cross country trip across the rockies and back to Tx putting 5K on them in all kinds of weather including light snow. I really like the grip and they seem to be wearing well.

I also have the Tiregard pressure monitoring system. These have the sensors mounted on top of the valve stems( I changed to metal valve stems ) and the system has been working perfectly for 10K.

Sound like you have a good trip coming up, my riding partner and I are thinking about a trip up the East Coast from Tx to Maine next year, What is the best month for riding in Maine?

The Fall is beautiful, but can get chilly. In the mountains, the leaves are at peak 1st week of October.
Middle of July to Middle of August is warmest.

Boots? Must be Gore-tex
radar detector Escort or Valentine 1. Can't go wrong with either, and a necessity for anyone riding or drivng (Caution: illegal in Virginia)
Mic-o-pegs Have them, love them!
tire pressure monitor probably nice to have, but never had one myself
Tires, Avon or BT020, are BIAS best To go the distance I would use Metzelers, otherwise I am happy with the BT020

I am interested in opinions regarding
Street Guard 3, or other gear----REPLY I'm very happy with AeroStitch Darien. Durable, waterproof.

Boots?----- REPLY You into hiking? Good hiking boots with a set of high gaiters from EMS or the like. Or good quality riding boots, I have a set of BMW boots which have been very good, not so great for real hiking, but water proof, comfortable, and durable.

radar detector -------REPLY I have an older Escort, works well enough. Some folks swear by Valentine. Somebody mentioned they're illegal in VA,.... Canada too, I understand they'll confiscate it even if it is turned of and buried in your luggage.

Mic-o-pegs ----- REPLY I have Jpegs, don't use 'em very much.

tire pressure monitor---- REPLY nice feature, I have SmartTire, now discontiued.

Tires, Avon or BT020, are BIAS best ---- REPLY I'm partial to Bridgestone bias ply BT020. Not as long wearing as the Metz's but won't howl like the Metz's. Mount a new sets of Stones before departing, don't ride too aggressively and they'll go the distance.

Thanks, in advance. I have been wanting to do this for years, tried to

Good luck!

For riding gear check out AeroStitch, Duluth, MN. I purchased a Darien Light 2-piece prior to my cross-country ride, 8300+miles, to the MOA rally. Had between 35 and 105, cool & dry the whole time. Above 85 I wear a wet vest, works GREAT!

I really like my BMW boots.

Gerbring electric jacket liner, gloves and insoles work great.

I'm 62 also, not to worry.

Tire monitor. Don't have one I check each AM when on the road. Wal-mart sells a small 12v pump.

I'm a Metzler fan. I run mine to the side wall max pressure. Good grip and I don't care about the "humming". I've got over 17K on my front, western twisties, track day and cross-country riding.

I have a TPX radar. Designed for m/c. Has a visual and aural alerts. Get them both.

I have a BMR (bmrproducts.com) appliance shelf. Very clean install

Good luck.
