I'm gonna cut it out myself from aluminium sheet of 5 mm thick. And coat it with powder paint. And to add to the file for cutting machine my favorite logo or bawdy phrase :)

I still have the first rack I ever made.
After noting some measurements and angles, I drew it in CAD then printed it out and stuck to some 6mm lauan plywood. Then just cutout to check the fit! Then it was off to the waterjet guy and the finishing guy and the anodizing guy..

Dear Sir!
Would you be so kind as to provide me with a CAD-file of a rack?
In order to strengthen international relations and humanitarian aid to backward countries?

Of all the things that I have bought for my LT, I would have to say that this one has been the best. The weight of the top case removal made a huge difference for me, plus now I'm able to stack a couple dry bags on the rack and be gone for several weeks. Love it.

Has anybody try to fit a "leer" from a top of central case at this place? With some spacers, sure. It is too small to cover all this space between side cases but it already is :)

I've heard it before and I'll say it again... The cheapest thing on a bmw is the owner! I love my ol' LT!

That is just because nothing else on a BMW is cheap!

I like the "Fort Worth" rack on my LT. I ride solo and most often I don't need the space of the top case. When I travel I clip on my "BMW" waterproof rear luggage bag which I bring up to the hotel room at journey's end.

I would like to find one of those. Not many ever come around on eBay. I ride without the top case and went with something similar that I bought from bakupusa.com.
I bolt on the passenger rest when I need it

I am a solo rider, too. I also removed the rear trunk and added a rack... which works great for me for most of my local riding.
I purchased the Corbin Smuggler from a bmwlt member a few years back and I alternate between the rack, and this trunk.
The trunk holds my tent, and clothes, and odds and ends and works great for long distance travel. It is not as heavy as the original box, and it appears to be more aerodynamic, and pleasing to my eyes.

Here's the one I just replaced. I got the basic info from the Northern Illinois Motorrad videos. Did some research and found it came from the Fairing Factory (Fairing Factory Products |
part number FF8076. Actually a Harley part for the tourpack. I found mine on Ebay for <$100 (the "cheapest thing is the owner" syndrome). Bought chrome spacers at Home Depot, and I really like the way it turned out. Looks like it was made for it. I've since added a removable Givi mount on top of the rack. The E460 case with a backrest pad fits on perfectly and is much more useful than the stock trunk when traveling. Without the top box, I can definitely feel a big difference in the bike.

Clean look! Way to go!
(I did the same thing when I am not riding with the Corbin Smuggler. I bought another rear seat and cut off the back so it sits flat with the rack so I can tie stuff across the seat and straight back on the rack. I also removed the rear foot pegs so I could use them as hold down points.)

How did you go about cutting off (?) and finishing the rear backrest from the rear seat in order to make the seat flush with the rear rack? Great idea, I would like to do the same. Thanks.

Hi Captain Wayne-I purchased a second rear seat online, then I removed the rear staples and carefully pulled the vinyl backrest off the foam backrest. Next, I cut the foam even with the seat height, and pulled the vinyl tightly over the remaining foam and restapled it. Then, I carefully cut off the excess vinyl. It came out okay. I will post photos tomorrow if it doesn't rain...
I should mention on the Fairing Factory rack-It won't clear the antenna w/o modifications. I removed my radio anyway, so it didn't really matter to me. But if you want to keep the stock antenna, you'll have to modify the rack.

Sorry about the photos I promised! I just got back from a road test trip using the Corbin Smuggler case. I liked it because it held all my camping gear and a change of clothes, though I prefer the rack for day to day. I will post some hopefully tomorrow! ((sigh))

I hope these are helpful...
(it is a rainy day in Southern California and one of our feral cats was walking all over my ratty cage beemer while I was shooting these photos.)

Thanks Frank & Captain!

Don't get me wrong my product was born of my cheapskate beliefs!

When I first made these the Ft.Worth racks were being sold by A&S cycle for $375 a pop, and if you wanted the optional backrest that would cost you an additional $90!

So I set out to make my own, these are 1/4" instead of the 3/8" material used on the Ft.Worth unit. Making these units a pound+ or so lighter.

It's all about removing weight for my girl. I have removed a total of 60+ pounds! ...
..but it's still not a 1600gt.

Cheers!
