Hi from London! Anybody know how to solve the problem of a broken latch on the top case? It's looking like I'll have to replace the whole base and although it's under a full BMW warranty, they're not wanting to honour it ...

First I would suggest you contact BMW regarding the lack of Warranty service by the dealer.
If that fails you could support one of the vendors here that has a replacement product for sale and is a supporting vendor for the site. You will find him here http://www.lttrunklatch.com/
Hi John. I bought the bike last September from a private seller who had maintained the full BMW warranty. When I went to a BMW dealer here after 3 days with a stuck locking mechanism on the CD compartment, they weren't at all helpful and wanted me to book the bike in for a whole day for a mechanic to determine the problem without even taking a look at it first. I said I couldn't afford the time off work for such a trivial issue and that it could wait until its 24000 mile service. There was a sharp intake of breath at the mention of this 'milestone' service and I was told I could expect to pay upwards of £1000 when it was due! I was recommended a private garage (www.mhmotorcycles.co. uk) run by Mark Holden, who specialises in BMW bikes, and I have all my servicing done there for a fraction of the price and superb customer service!

I'll take your advice and continue to push BMW to honour the warranty, but having taken the bike in to a different dealer on the 9th March, where they took pictures of the lock and promised that the service manager would be in touch with me, I'm still waiting for a reply. . . They have said that I'd have to leave it with them to assess whether it's worthy of a claim or not, and that means losing money anyway, as it is a work bike and any time off the road is lost revenue!

I've just ordered a replacement latch from the LTtrunklatch website link you put on the post, so fingers crossed that will be able to be fitted easily enough and solve the problem. I love the bike but the attitude of the BMW dealers here is appalling. They only seem to want to deal with rich bankers with more money than sense so I'm not holding my breath waiting for a helpful response from them!

Many thanks for your help though, John. I had tried so many other websites with no luck, so it looks like you've saved the day!

Rob,
I have the same problem on the CD lid mechanism. When I lock / unlock the bike with the remote, only the 3 trunks are locked. I have to put my key in the lid-lock, then push the key down very gently until making contact and only then lock / unlock with the remote.
Hope this helps.

Rob,
I am a little confused now, when you say at TOP case are you talking about the compartment that houses the CD player and comm gear or the TOP case (trunk) on the back of the bike?
The WEB page I listed was for the case at the back of the bike not the CD/comm compartment on the front.
Hope I didn't sent you in the wrong direction.
