Ouch, I Bottomed out my 99 LT in Lackawaxen Pa , the 4 fingers that the Center-Side stand assembly mount to , broke off at the trans case leaving 3 coin sided openings into the trans .
See pic of stand assembly, the black spots on the FINGERS are the places that were interior to the trans case and exposed to the oil .

Has anyone ever encountered this,
and if so Can the fingers be welded back to the bottom of the trans housing?
Kooks lie a clean break.

Opinions on whether the welded fingers would be sufficient to support at least the sidestand if not the Centerstand?

Or please convince me that I am NOT looking at replacing the whole transmission ? :bmw:

I hate to be a Negative Nancy, but I think you are screwed...!
If you bottomed out that badly you will also need your suspension checked and ou will definitely need new shocks set to your weight and riding style.

That is why they added a skid plate to the early bikes as this is easy to do without it. I have seen one case that it was welded back to gether successfully. But you have to pull the tranny to do it as all oil must be removed. Then there is the risk it won't hold and leak. You need to find a really good aluminum welder. On the other hand I know "Mugsy" up in Ontario still has a spare tranny he bought and is trying to get rid of.

I'd go the "Mugsy" route...
