Hi all!

I have a question. It seems I was riding along, minding my own business and this clown (I'd say what he really was, but I don't want the jail time) who was parked on the side of the street decided to pull a U-turn in front of me! I guess he figured that motorcycles aren't really vehicles!

Anyway, I tried to jump ahead of him, and I nearly succeeded, but he clipped my right rear saddle pod (bag). He put scratches in the paint and destroyed my reflector. Now, keep in mind this bike is brand new (one month old)!

I have had some experience with trying to match BMW paint with my LT and I found that it's nearly impossible. That means the insurance company is going to have to replace the cover rather than paint it! It's going to cost them $$$$!

Has anyone out there had similar experiences with this? The insurance company is State Farm Ins.

Here's the best part! That clown who turned in front of me, the first words out of his mouth where "You know this is your fault, right?!". I advised him that he needed to wait for traffic to clear before he started his turn. He then refused to give me his drivers licence and insurance information!

The world is full of these people!

Thanks for your help.

Damn Steve...you have some nerve, how DARE you drive down his street.
Your fault.... :histerica

Too bad you don't live down here. David Kinsey is a master at matching BMW paint. Maybe you could send the part to him???

No matter how you look at it this is considered "hit and run" on his part. Did you call the cops?

Sorry to hear about your encounter with an idiot - there is a reason why people should use condoms and that is one of them!

I dropped my RT on day 2 - the side stand thing - anyway i took the saddlebag to a body shop that did European cars, mostly BMW and Volvo and they did an awesome job matching the paint - mine was Biarittz Blue and when he got done I could not tell the difference even holding the two bags together in daylight.

Another option - good luck

Thanks for all your help on this!

Zippy_gg,

Yes I did call the cops! Further, (I'm not making this up by the way) when he refused to give me his information I pulled out my cell phone to call the police. He said "go ahead and call the police. See if I care!". So I did. A few moments later I was talking to the 911 dispatch telling her that he has refused to give me his information. At that he said "I never said I wouldn't give you my information". He then went and got it.

I think we ought to take all these _________ (insert your own favorite word here) to Niagara Falls and see if they float!

Thanks again.

I just replaced the side cover on my red 1300GT. I ordered the cover, already painted, from Chicago BMW and it was less than $400 total including shipping. To get someone down here to do body work and painting would be in $300-400 range.

I think I would have snapped a couple of camera phone pictures of the perp
after he started getting belligerent. Just to protect myself.

Maybe we could all get a look at him.

And send the part to David Kinsey. In fact, he's just up the road at the CCR.
Maybe you can catch him.

No,,,,,

This is a brand new bike.
Take it to the dealer . There may be hidden damage. The rear subframe is EASY to damage.
Get it looked at by a pro...
Either way you get a new saddlebag...

Not a fixed up one. A new one.

Hi everyone!

OK so here's the final chapter on this!

Despite all the things the other (jerk) driver told State Farm Ins. about me and my evil ways! The insurance adjuster has just left. He has given me a check for the full amount of the replacement parts plus $80.00 for labor!

State Farm Insurance is officially on my "Good Guys" list! :)

It's over! :rotf:

Thanks for all of your advice and help!
