You have to use a drogue chute, point a Cessna at the ground, even with the engine off, and it will rapidly accellerate way beyond the max test speed, and start tearing things off it. Like wings. ;)

This stunt is not new, I have seen it done on TV at least three times in the past several years. First time I think it was in Europe, and a Pilatus plane was used. Still a rather crazy thing to do though. Miss, and go into that windmilling prop..........................................!

So...if the wings come off that's like a real big problem, huh? :D

What I want to see is some idiot try this between helicopters. :rotf:

No, don't point it at the ground, fly it along at stall speed and let him try and get in. Then you've really done something:D

Did you ever see that guy chute into a moving convertible? He gets beat up pretty good on a few tries.

Yeah, that would be something alright, even if almost impossible. A skydiver with the most drag he can accomplish will still be falling at a prodigious rate, and could not get into a plane, as he would slash by it like a falling brick. And with a Cessna, the wing would be in the way of the door. You cannot get a plane to go down at a relatively matching rate without nosing it down. It has to be falling like the skydiver.

Now maybe if one used that "flying" suit that one person uses, hands and legs stretched out like a flying squirrel---------------.

Terminal is something around 120, but that is with legs and arms tucked back, head down and diving like a bullet. Loose clothing fluttering will slow it down a little. I think a skydiver with legs arms out and parallel to the ground can get it down to around 80. Can a skydiver chip in here?

Terminal Velocity

I've jumped a few times at the Cleveland Parachute club. There's one guy there who calls himself "The Human Meat Missile". He has tipped the 300mph mark. :eek: The official record is 321mph, according to this website. Terminal Velocity is approx. 125mph spread eagle, but 200mph when you're balled up.

Terminal about 100-120, delta (swoop) or 'tracking' as we used to call it, about 180 (used to make horizontal distance), nose-to-earth up-to about 240. Also depends if your jumping naked or wearing a suit.

I used to fall out backwards from the cessna and whip a double bird at the pilot while freefallilng from the door....

next think I know, ole pete would be looking right at me about 20 feet away with the cess in a nose dive, givin it right back to me!! :)

we used to do some crazy stuff at the DZ, not sure how we got away with some of it...

Now I own bikes that can reach that speed faster than gravity will pull you.

sure was fun though :dance:

I had to do one or two H.A.L.O.s in my day and would be in the 230 to 250 range, with Oxygen and WAY too much gear on for that kind of chute opening and landing and I have the compressed vertebra to prove it :( . Terminal was usually considered 125, but my goal was to get to the ground as fast as possible without being seen.

Very nice link. Thanks for sharing. Here's a bit of trivia:
There is a Federal Air Regulation (FAR) that makes it illeagal to jump from an aircraft with out a parachute. Reason: In the mid 60s, somebody jumped without a chute and his companion jumped holding on to an additional chute and passed it to the first guy during free fall. And they both made it down safely. Cheers.
