I just bought a new 2009 LT and considering going to the Rally in Johnson City, Tenn. next month. I can get a $10 discount if I am a member of BMW Motorcycle Owners of America. Is it worth the $40 yearly fee?

To me it is. The monthly magazine is very good and just about worth the $40 by itself. Then you get the Annonymous book which is invaluable if you ride cross country very much.....or even just around your state.

+1 on the ON mag. Just one of the bennies of MOA membership. That mag is chock full of good info - monthly. Lists all the various regional rallies within several months time; lotsa good technical sections; letters to the Editor is usually pointed and informative; nice ads and great classifieds, IMO; and relatively up-to-date information regarding the marquee.

And like mentioned, if you travel any distance at all, pack the Anonymous book with you and you'll usually find someone close by where you are that might offer aid and assistance if you're in need of either. Kinda helps on the situation of not having BMW shoppes all over the country.

A little booklet that lists just phone numbers by state/city and categorizes the assistance/aid an anonymous member may offer. No names listed - just phone numbers. And with many, many services that each member can provide, such as just chat and a cuppa; or tools for service/repairs; trailering info; etc. This is just me, butt I don't leave home without the book in my topcase/sidecase.

Also lists the various dealership locations and phone numbers.

Worth it just for the Anonymous Book - saved our butts more than once. Been a member since I had my first k-bike.

You just bought a 20K bike!! So there is no way in hell it can be worth an couple extra bucks a year for a magazine.... Spend the $40 on Amdro and sprinkle it in the neighbors yard or something... :histerica

I'd pay twice that much just for the security I get with the Anonymous book (don't tell anyone from MOA).

I've only had to use it once, but that once was worth a LOT..

500 miles from home, I lose my wallet.. 2 phone calls.. #1 Answering Machine.. #2 Human on the other end, a little ways away, will be there in an hour..

20 minutes later #1 shows up.. was working on his roof when he came in he checked his machine.. He buys me a coke and something to eat, offers to pay my way home, but tell him I'm waiting for #2 to show up.. I'd hate for them to travel all the way there to find me gone..

#2 shows up as planned.. Asks what I need.. $20 for gas to get me home, that's ALL I need. He hands me $50.. And tells me stop on the way home to get something hot to eat.

Look around the BMWMOA website.. you'll find HUNDREDS of similar stories.. and stories of who MAY be in there.. Anonymous like the rest of us.. (Ted Koppel is a local rumor)

Yeah.. extra insurance for $40 a year.. The best money I've EVER spent.
