So we're moving into our new home this week, and while waiting for all the various deliveries and installs, I found myself with this new wonderful Mitsubishi WD65833 LCD Rear Projection TV and no DirecTV box, no DVD player, BluRay, HDDVD, PS3, or XBox 360, and no other HD content for FIVE WHOLE DAYS!!! Can you imagine the withdrawl of not having anything to watch, HD or otherwise for FIVE WHOLE DAYS???
Well, enter Apple iPhone, a little content I'd purchased previously, and the iPhone/iPod Touch to Component AV cable. Not quite HD, but since the WD65833 does a nice job of upconverting, I was able to watch Casino Royale, The Incredibles, Swordfish, Gladiator, and Operation Petticoat (don't ask) that was stored on the iPhone on the new TV. The picture was great, considering the best resolution from the iPhone is widescreen 480p. Sharp picture, crisp color, and no playback issues (i.e., the dreaded sync mismatch between the audio and video) that you see on some HDMI connections.
DirecTV arrived Saturday, I found my Blu-Ray DVD Player, and I still don't know if I will need the PS3 or XBox after all.
BTW, this is my first foray into HDTV, so this stuff is way cool.
Now, I just have to wait for the Home Theater company to install the rest of the house, including the 7.1 THX Surround media room and whole house distributed Audio/Video.
