I vaguely remember this article from awhile back. At the time I recall thinking that the analysis should have included the repair rate based on miles ridden. Although I don't have detailed data I believe that V Twins in general are ridden many fewer miles annually than most BMW's. Yea I know there are some Harleys out there that do 15k + miles/year but they are in the minority. That's not to say that BMW isn't probably near the top when it comes to maintenance cost if done by the book at your local dealer. I guess I'm fortunate in that over the last 13 years I've kept the cost down by personally performing all the routine maintenance on the 7 different BMW motorcycles that I've owned and accumulated roughly a combined 200,000 miles without a major failure. Of course I wasn't interviewed by CR.
