I traded in my '09 Sapphire Black RT last year for a K1600 GT. It was a difficult decision as my RT was the best bike I had ever owned.

I got seduced by the engine and the new technology of the GT. However after 9 months, I'm throwing in the towel. I never loved the GT and I miss the RT. This got reinforced when I picked up a used GS two weeks ago.

So now I have to decide do I get a '12 RT or wait for the water cooled? I think the GS will be the first bike with the new engine and so I will probably go with a '12 as I will have to wait for a while for the RT.

I'm looking forward to to getting back to the the best bike there is (to me)!!!

Welcome back! I still miss the engine that was in my 04 GT but I'm loving riding this 2012 RT so much more, I'd never go back.

I really don't have any issues at all with the air cooled engine, so I wouldn't wait, get the bike!

I am going with a 2012. Wish they made it in sapphire black but I am thinking of the midnight blue color. Does any of the grey colors come in a metallic color as opposed to matte?

Thanks,
Ken

I was told by a dealer that the 2012 fluid grey is the 2011 ostra grey but with a gloss finish instead of matte.

Rob - it's gorgeous. Looks like the tail trunk is color-matched, unusual at least here in the US they're all light silver and you have to go aftermarket to get them the bike's color.

Enjoy, and welcome to this forum.

The Ostra Grey for 2012 is gloss versus matte. I like the Midnight Blue and would choose it if buying 2012. I went with the Ostra Grey matte on my 2011, I like it but the blue looks real sharp on the RT. .

Hi JayJay and thanks for the welcome.

You're right, the top box is always silver in the UK as well - I paid the supplying dealer to colour match it to the rest of the bike before I took delivery. They have a car body shop anyway and did a great job, both with matching the colour and also the finish!

Live is short and one time around. Why wait if your mind is made up that you want an RT. Buy it now and you will be riding it more since you own it and are not waiting. Then there is the issue of Beta testing the WC unit. The twin cam RT's are fabulous.

Just rode my 2011 RT up and down Palomar Mountain (San Diego County) yesterday. It just loves to turn and the bike inspires confidence. Personally, I don't think there's a better bike out there...at least for me.

Like Rob, I have the rare grey-colored 2012 RT, with color matched trunk.

Every time I look at it I think how brilliant it would look if all the shiny grey bits were gloss black.

The Midnight Blue makes me a bit queasy. It's actually more of a sea blue green color.

WC boxer. Shudder.
