anyone ever shut your bike off then come back later to find headlight on dash lit up - seems like it would be a bad ignition switch - 2K LT

I saw one where it did that any time the battery was hooked up. He had an old type starter relay that had welded on him but he did not notice after it started. He drove for a while until the starter motor killed the battery. It melted wiring from the relay box all the way back to the alternator area. Luckily all we had to do was open the harness up and separate the wires and tape everything up. She was fine after that. Hope you fair better.

Hi John - did this last fall, Ford solenoid, takes load off starter relay, the problem has been going on last month or so intermittently, stopping put down sidestand turn off key dash and headlight lit up, turn key on off everything off, thoght might be a problem with sidestand switch but in the Clymer scematics it is attached to the back up module. It seems to be happening if it is very hot outside. A couple of days ago went out and the dash and headlight were lit up.

Gary,
I don't know the solution to your problem, most likely you are on the right track with the switch.

Just a comment on your mod, it scares me that you have the plus side battery connections mounted so close to the negative post of the battery. If you get a wrench sideways on that setup it will melt it right out of your hand. Please take a moment to at least insulate those connections.

it rotates up with the adjuster - understand concerns - I used to work on mainframes with 5 volt 100 amp supplies etc. - learn to be real carefull

on the K1100 the grounded metal frame on which the computer is mounted is about 1/2 inch over/covering the + battery connection, grounded battery more than once accidently with wrench

Rather than digging up 5 to 10 year old threads, I suggest you PM jzeller directly and wait for him to answer. he will set you straight on the wiring.

Also, learn to use the quote as that sets a notification to the quoted person that there is something they need to look at.

Three large Black/Yellow wires each has a different color sleeve at the end. Brown goes to the ground tie point behind the battery on the right , Black goes to the starter tie point same area on the left and the Red goes to the battery (+) terminal.
