Neither can I! I have an '05, was able to do it a while ago. Then IPOD died, is back to life now and I can get as far as "Ice>Link setup" but cannot get into the menu. I just want to change the charging parameters.

Will return the ice>link tomorrow for a replacement and see how it goes. If a new one doesn't solve the problem it gets returned for a refund. IMHO the ice>link is grossly overrated product in respect to how it works on the LT..

I've read some of your past comments on the ice>link, seems you are one of the few who can get the thing working. Would like any ideas on how to get this thing to go into the ice>link menu.

Joe, I have an 03. the ice link has firmware 2.B2. I put the CD player into disc 6 music plays, however, nothing I do will bring up the ice link UI.

Do you have scrolling text enabled?

Also, could you please tell me EXACTLY what firmware version the iPod reads when you plug it in to ice>Link's cradle? It should read "ICEV22.B2" if you truly have the latest firmware. I can email it to you if you don't have it.

"ICEV22..B2" is installed. I have scrolling text enabled on the LT's radio.

Although It can be a little quirky at times, my IPOD set-up works great. We listened to it the entire weekend while on the Ft. Bragg ride. Also used it on the CCR trip with no Problems (once recharged). Don't get scrolling text on the '05, but that's no big deal...don't really care. Worth every penny, once you get it to load!

Removing the Ice Link Cradle

Assuming I can get the Ice Link up and running, is it possible to remove the docking plug from the cradle ? The reason: I bought an aluminium case ages ago called an ipod armour which works really well, but still allows you to connect bottom and top plugs into the ipod. It protects the ipod really well and I'd like to continue to use it. Cheers.

No. It is mounted on a little printed circuit board. However, it is my understanding that Dension does make a diffent cable that will suit your needs. Just costs money, that's all.

I'll probably be ordering one for myself as I want to relocate my iPod to the front of the bike.

I have been running firmware ICEV22.B2 on a 3G 40G iPod with my '03 LT and have been unable to enter the menu mode for the last 2 firmware upgrades... Still have intermittant usability issues that can usually (not always) be resolved by turning the LT's sound system off and on, rebooting the icelink; however, the menu at CD6 is still ellusive. Dension has not replied to my last 2 requests for help.

As a side note, how does the nano work (got one of these, too) without a proper adapter???

Do you have the "BMW_Text_to_rad.mp3" file loaded onto your iPod? Before being familiar with the setup menu, I used to accidently disable the scrolling text. I would just run that .mp3 and re-enable scrolling text in less than a minute. Simple fix.

Scrolling text is enabled, and working. Does this have an effect on the menu??? I have always only viewed the menu on the iPod display.

ICE>link working

I also now have my ICE>link now working and the freeze up problems are gone. I needed to move the ICE>link module to the front of the sidecase from the previous rear mounted position (the back is warmer due to road heat and the tail lights). I found that I had to remove the IPOD mounting cradle from the back of the side case as well and the IPOD is now sitting in an unmounted cradle wrapped in a towel. All of this was worked out traveling across country and not having a continuously working IPOD/ICE>link.

Prior to the move, I had added a strip of 3/4 wide aluminum as a heat sink to the 7805 voltage regulator on the ICE>link module. That did not solve the lock up issues, but the module ran longer in warm weather.

After moving the module, I successfully ran 3 days in warm upper 80's to very hot (death valley at 103 degrees) without any lockup. The longest previous time I was able to run was about an hour. The text display on my 2001 was "okay" but the scrolling was not perfect.

If there is a lock in connector instead of the cradle I will probably get it and then use velcro to mount the IPOD. Based on my experience, I believe there is both a temperature problem with the ICE>link module and a vibration problem with the hard mount.

In the process of shortening the ICE>link cable to less than 1 foot.

I have been dissatisfied with the Dension web page and total lack of response to posted and called in problems. However, I have spent my $200 on the ICE>link and modified it to get it running correctly, so I will stick with it. There supposedly is an option for a 3' cable instead of the 15' cable, but it is not on the web page. Neither is the lock in connector.

Huh, I've NEVER seen that work, even when I could get the damn thing to enter it's setup menu... Scrolling display of playlist / artist / song info works ok...

Roger: On the way back from CCR, I had to rewire my iPod directly into my interom unit, as my ice>Link DIED! DOA! (Dension has since replaced the unit...very satisfied with Chase's response times, and customer support thus far.) But back to my story... My iPod still continued to occasionally lock-up during my trip home. This tells me that our lock-ups have NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ice>Link . . . and has EVERYTHING to do with our iPods heating up in that saddlebag. Simply not enough ventilation . . . especially when full. And mine always is full.

Later today, I am removing the ice>Link out of my saddlebag and up to the front of my bike. Once this experimentation is complete (and successful), I will figure out the iPod's new home. Either on the right handlebar, or just above the LT's RCU Display. Either will probably be just fine. I'll probably just go with the cheaper of the two. :)

Stay tuned . . .

Joe,
I intentionally ran just my IPOD is a completely closed environment baking in the sun and had no problems, so I believe the problem is the ICE>link. for my next trip I will leave the iPOD to the rear of the case, but not mounted and see if there is a lockup issue. I do want to get the lock in connector though. Do you know were they are available?
