This sucks..........I have been out sick all week. On Wednesday I go to the doc to get some stronger meds. On the way home I find out one of the twins has a fever and was asked by the wife (she is at work) take kids meds to grandma's house. All my in-laws and I live on 15 acres. (This has good and bad points.) My wife and I have 5 and grandma has 10 and there is small dirt road to her house. I swing by our house to get the meds. The dogs, love to run next to the truck to grandma's, like a little escort. I saw the two others, one to the left front and the one in the rear view mirror. The third I thought did not come as they some times do, stay at home. Next I hear is yelping and thump. My heart stank as I got to the yelping sound of my dog in pain.

I was in panic mode. Once I calmed down the dog, "Sarge" calmed down too. He could not get up. With help from my in-laws got Sarge in the truck. Short story. I could tell his hind quarters were screwed up bad.

Once at the doggie er, X-rays showed a shattered pelvic bone on both sides. This is the same "Sarge" that was run over by the wife and had pins in front leg a few months early. Our dogs are outside dogs and hang out on the property. We had to make a decision which was best for all. We felt that cause of his age, 8, his other front legs, and the possible that repairing him might not work. We did not want to put him through all the pain. It sucked, cried like a baby. He was put to sleep.

It has taken me two days to type this and get it off my chest. He was a great dog.

Sarge RIP.................

John,

Sometimes it helps just to know someone cares and understands.

My condolences John.

Some dogs just don't seem to learn to stay clear of vehicles. When I was a kid, my brother had a dog that would run underneath the tractor while it was moving. Our other dog would run alongside, but this one would dart between the wheels. He was injured once, but recovered.

Eventually, though, the wheel got him. Thankfully, my brother (the owner) was driving at the time. He's a pretty emotional guy sometimes, and I hate to think how he would've treated someone else if they had run over his dog. He cried too.

Sometimes there's just not much you can do. Getting close to anyone or anything entails risk. It's worth it though. I'm glad you have fond memories.

I am very sorry for your loss. Dogs love us without reserve, without criticism, and it's tough to lose one you love. They tell me that this too shall pass.

Thanks for all the kind words.............I know Sarge was just a dog for some, but he was the coolest............Paws in the water bucket, snoring in the garage which the whole house heard him, crossing his front paws when laying down, always looking for food, over weight just a little and etc..............
