Storage compartment with a lid that swings down exposing a mirror.
Yep.

With two small plastic pins that easily break. Especially if you stuff a helmet into the top case...

You might be able to find replacements online or at a bike wreckers. I recently bought a trunk from a local wrecker to get a replacement trunk latch. It also came with a mirror, which I was missing.
I owned a 2000LT for 13 years, and never once used the mirror. Just saying...

I understand, Dave.

I was just explaining to my wife that I have one motorcycle. It's currently parked in the garage behind the other four, most of which actually run at the moment...

Never mind, you don't need it and now you have more room. One of the two hinge pins on the drop-down mirror always breaks, both on my 2001 and 2007 LTs. All it's good for is your insurance and registration papers.

I just keep a compact mirror in the case anyways as mine came without/broken. There is always the side mirror if you haven't screwed them down yet. A little tap and they come right off in your hand 😁

Ha ha that happened to me the other weekend. I did 12 hours in the saddle over the Saturday and Sunday. On the way home I hit a big pothole followed quickly by a second big pothole. My left mirror suddenly parted ways with the bike. I saw it sail through the air. Thankfully I had recently put tethers on my mirrors so I wouldn't lose them. The problem was I made those tethers a bit long. At 100 kph the mirror just kind of sat in the air stream and floated along, but when I started to slow it started banging against the side of my fairing. I had to reach down and grab the mirror with my left hand while I looked for a place to pull over and clip it back on. Note to self, shorten those tethers.

As I mentioned above, I just drilled and tapped a hole through the air vent on the mirror and screwed them on with a long faring screw. The plastic was broken around the spring clips on mine and I wasn't about to buy new mirrors $$. Inadequate design if a pot hole can dislodge them. Easy enough of a fix so I don't have to stop in order to continue to see behind me.

What can I say, I have never had a mirror come off while riding. Walking around the bike in the garage is a different story.

The secret is to pop them off and clean the bails and balls, then apply a light coat of grease to both. Sounds counter intuitive but the grease allows the bails to slide farter down the balls and holds much better. Also you need a gap all around the mirror base.

Yes, the plastic around the spring clips on both my mirrors were broken when I bought it. I found an easy way to fix that because I wanted to return it to standard. This is the first time I have had this happen but the pot holes were the kind that would devour a lesser bike.
