Does anyone know the proper way to check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail?. Or does anyone know how to check the fuel pressure regulator?. My Clymer Manual doesn't make much sense to me. It says to check pressure before the regulator.

Same as a car...

You have "startup" pressure.. when bike is powered up...fuel pump runs... then stops when pressure reached. Fuel pump restarts when starter is running.

To test, connect a fuel pressure rated gauge to the fuel rail then turn on the bike.

Then crank/start bike... test pressure..

The factory manual has a test hose inserted in the line and the guage is "teed" to that line. If you had a set of QD's, hose and a tee you could make a test jig. There is no port on the fuel rail. I guess you could also remove the feed side QD's and just clamp a tee in the line also.

A tee in the fuel pressure line from the pump to the fuel rail is about the only way to test the LT. There is no pressure test port on the rail. The regulator is a pressure relief valve, that bypasses at the set pressure to pass excess fuel back to the tank, so that a pressure test anywhere between the fuel pump and regulator will give you the correct reading.

You can just pull the line from the pump off the rear of the rail, use a male 5/16" (8 MM) tee, and short piece of tubing between the rail and tee, fuel line from pump and line from gage to the other two ports of the tee, start the engine and read the pressure. You can also put the tee in the line from the pump under the tank, but not much room to work there, easier to do at the rear of the fuel rail.

PS: I just remembered how I did it once, used a spare quick connector set, tee, and long enough line to loop back around and hooked into the pressure line at the quick connectors. You just have to determine which line goes to the rear of the fuel rail.

I used my old plastic QD fittings and had 75 to 80 psi I just installed a new fuel pressure regulator and now have a steady 50 psi. Also the needle doesn't wiggle at all when I twist the throttle.

So far I have replaced the O2 sensor fixed my exhaust leaks changed the oil new spark plugs & installed a new fuel pressure regulator. My guess is it will run like new.

If it runs like I think it will I'll take a little 250 mile ride to the ocean tomorrow for lunch. I always wanted to dip the front tire in the Atlantic.

Lucky Dog! I just spent the last 2 hours stripping seat, tank, and ABS unit again.

I'd go with you, except I don't think I could duck-walk the big, fat pig that far at highway speeds. :D Glad you got your fixed, Dave. One down. One to go.

I only wish. It ran good for about 5 miles And then the engine ran worse than it ever did. Its at the dealer & they can't look at it until wed. They did give me a Triumph 1050 Tiger loaner though.

Whats the news on your abs unit Lee? any luck yet?

Sorry we're still in the same boat. Did they give you any idea as to how long they thought it would take to repair? Me neither. All I know is that they're hunting a unit. Might even be a new one.

Around 2:00, we were going to Concord Mills. Passing your house, I saw a copper colored motorcycle in your driveway. Didn't see it well enough to know what it was. I figured you had company and we hadn't had lunch, so I didn't stop. What do you think of the Tiger?

Its definitely not my kind of bike. It would help if I would adjust the rear brake and shift levers to fit my boots. On my bike I used over 1/4 tank of gas to go 45miles.
