I normally only wear my full face helmet when the temp is below 80 but I want to start wearing it year round. The problem is that my faceshield won't stay open once I get over 30 mph. Last year I tied my bandana around my chinbar to keep it open during an Iron Butt ride from Miami to Atlanta in July. It worked well but looked ghetto. Any other suggestions?

Although the replies that I received to this thread didn't exactly answer my original question, I started doing some research and determined that it was time to retire my helmet based on age. After a lot of research and a 30 minute "test ride" I decided to go with the Shoei Qwest. My favorite feature is the ability to lock the shield in the cracked open position.

I think Steve and Michael both answered your question! It seems as you took their advice and purchased a new helmet.

Now ride safe without looking ghetto! :D

My Schuberth has a couple of "notches", sometimes it's open all the way and sometimes just a crack.

My C3 Schubreth is new and will close if the windshield is down around 20 MPH. In another thread, maybe the other K1600 site, it was suggested to put a very thin rubber washer on each hinge point. I haven't tried it, but maybe a search of the site will uncover the solution.

Now that is the type of advice that I was looking for. I knew that someone had come up with an ingenious solution to this problem.

I use a cork from a bottle of wine.

When it rains, and my face shield wants to fog up, I have short pieces of cork, with notches in them, that keeps my face shield open just a crack.

I bough a new helmet recently that I really like; fits me better than my old Schuberth:
http://www.caberghelmetshop.co.uk/konda-flip-front/cat_4.html BRIGHT!!!!! Yellow.

My Schuberth was XL; this one is Large. My fat head didn't get smaller, The Caberg helmet Large corresponded to my head measurement.

I bought it via the Italy ebay web site.

Where I live, helmets aren't mandatory--I don't worry about not having a DOT sticker.

Bob

Oh they also make a very interesting full face type of helmet:
