I guess this is kinda old, but do need help. Am finally getting around to installing a Midland 75-822. I have called both J&M and BMW motorad and was not able to get any help from either. J&Ms response was that the cable is proprietary and only BMW sells. Both of the dealers I called and BMW motorad could not help. So here we go. I found two din plugs under the stingray. One of them is a 6 pin din with a 3 wire rectangular plug about 6 inches back on the cable. The other is a 5 pin din. Which of these do I use to hook up the CB and does anyone have a wiring diagram with the pin outs. See pics. You guys were a big help when I was doing the rear main seal, slave cylinder and tranny seals job. Hope someone has the needed info.

Do you have the BMW handbook for the autocom? In it it shows the harnesses for the midland CB, not exactly a wiring diagram, but what the harnesses do is connect the radio to the autocom via the din plug on the face of the com unit. there is also a requirement for a push to talk switch that would mount on the handlebar, or for the passenger.....all I got for now..

I am attaching the install manual for the Comm system. You will see on page 26 that the CB wire harness goes into a 8 pin din. This is most likely located under the left side of the stingray. The 3 pin connector is for GPS audio.

I tried to upload it but the forum will not allow a file that big....PM me with your email address and I will email it to you...The file is just under 5 MB

Thanks to y'all for taking the time to reply. Any additional info will be greatly appreciated. The only plugs under the stingray that are not hooked up are the two I have shown in the pics. Took the stingray off and pulled these out to the back so I could still ride but have access to them to do the wiring. Killinbenz, will pm you. Thanks and God Bless, Ed

Ok, getting older certainly beats dying, but the brain doesn't work like it used to. The connector with the 3 pin rectangular plug attached is an 8 pin din, not a six pin as I had indicated. :rotf:

Again, thanks to all of you who have been so helpful. The install instructions from Killinbenz have been infinitely helpful. The diagrams included the pin numbers with the wiring. I was able to locate a site that gave me the correct sequence for the pin outs on the 8 pin din and the 5 pin din. Now the real issue of the wiring is coming to light. The old 75-830 had a 3 wire jack for the mic. 1. cb mic + positive red. 2. cb tx/ptt white. 4. cb mic - negative SHD. On the other hand, the 75-822 has a two wire mic jack. I haven't been able to figure the work around for this, but I think it needs to be resolved before the PTT button I installed on the handlebar controls will work. I like this location better than the ugly looking clamps I've seen thus far.

On with the radio saga. Finally wired the bike up as per the comm installation manual indicated. Called Midland radio and asked for a fix to the difference in the 3 wire mic jack for the old 75-830 and the 2 wire mic jack for the 75-822. He suggested I wire the ptt wire and mic + wire to the end of the jack. Also to place a 1k ohm resistor in the ptt wire. Well, did all as suggested. When I push the ptt button I get a loud buzzing and the meter reads as high as it can, but nothing is transmitted. I had a buddy fire up the radio on his harley. I couldn't hear him nor could he hear me, but the meter on my radio was registering when he was talking and when I was trying to transmit. Don't know where to head next, this is even more frustrating than the rear seal job. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Which is exactly why I've given up on it. I can hear CB but can't transmit using the 75-822. I had a valiant try though. The only reason I switched to the 75-822 was because the original 75-830 was dead when I bought the bike.

Chris, Thanks for taking the time to look. I can understand why you gave up on this. Trying to resolve this issue without any dealer help is somewhat frustrating. Went by the dealer today in Boerne, but they were clueless. Tried to get the front wiring harness. Quote from parts, "we don't carry many older parts, we really don't work on older bikes like yours, we make our money working on the newer ones. You will have to find a dealer who has been in business for a long time, a "heritage dealer." Ok, I will try that, by the way, how long have you been in business? "Three years at this site, but over 20 years at the other building." Soooo, how long does a dealership have to be in business to be in business " a long time?" Great attitude, wouldn't you say. Seems that 1justbill1 has an LT with the 75-822 working. Went by his place today, but missed him. Hoping that he will contact me so we can get together tomorrow so I can check out his wiring. I am believing this is fixable. Anyway, will keep you posted.
