Arrived home late Wednesday last and finally recovering from a 24 hour + journey including time zone changes. I transferred pics and vids from four devices (over two thousand photos!) and had instant recall of our trip to six Central and Eastern European countries. I’m thankful that I was able to explore part of my geographical ancestral heritage with little if any knowledge of my material grandparent’s roots, but Linda and I did meet one of her distant cousins and other relations in beautiful Slovenia.

We often take for granted what we have at home and this trip brought that into sharp focus. Most of the countries we visited experienced horrific wars for centuries with border changes, religious barbarities and attempts at ethnic purification. The visits to the Nazi Death Camps brought that into sharp focus. Most of the former Eastern Bloc countries survived and later prospered after the Iron Curtain came down, but others still struggle with weak economies. Nonetheless, we spoke with many citizens who love their culture, speak well of their neighbors and work hard to bring economic and social prosperity to their families. However, I still find it hard to accept a 60%+ personal tax rate in some socialist countries, and that model will be hard to change.

Linda and I are thankful to have met new, wonderful friends, the opportunity to travel with a great motorcycle touring organization and to ponder which destination we will chose next from our Bucket List!

After conversion from Metric to US measure and various currencies to US $, the average price per gallon was $5.63/gal. riding through six Central European countries.

The highest was $5.99 in Slovenia and the lowest was $4.63 in Austria. This included a 20% sales tax in Austria and 22% in Slovenia.

Cool pictures Paul. I like the one with the rock stacks ( Carins ). Probably wouldn't see a collection like that in the states as some spoiled kid would find entertainment in knocking them over rather than respect them.

How true! This was on a wide curve of a well-known moto pass in Slovenia. In fact there was a couple on a Harley posing there for photos. The most popular Beemer in Europe, however, is the GS. I would have loved to ride this pass but were were guests of Linda's family in a cage.

The attached photos are other views along this road.

Pad, we saw many hikers especially in Austria at staring point parking areas.
