My 2005 LT has 45,000 miles on it. I don't abuse it and keep after the maintenance, oil changes, etc.

It will need major service at the end of summer, and the suspension is ready for replacement with Wilburs or Ohlins parts. I'm looking at a decision point: Put a few thousand into the bike and ride it a few more years - probably past the 100,000 mile mark, or trade it on a new bike.

Any LT riders have 100K plus on the engine/transmission without having to rebuild either?

I just did a clutch and seals replacement at 32k, but I expect (if I did it right) that it will go on for 100k or more.

One of our members has much more than 150k on his original LT.

If you want to save a few $$, actually quite a few, look into installing HyperPro springs instead of pulling the trigger on Ohlins or Wilburs. Not quite the same, but many here have done it and are quite pleased. Just a thought... Less $$ makes easier decision.

45K is barely broken in for an LT.

I sold my '99 with 114,000 miles and by the SN and service records never had an engine/trans problem of any kind, and I was 3rd owner at 76,000. My '00 has over 94,000 (bought with 56,000 miles) and by the service records it had just had an engine seal go out around 52,000 which was replaced/repaired by a dealer, I wouldn't consider a seal a rebuild but then I have never had to go in that deep either... my oil leak culprit was a series of loose oil pan bolts (5nm instead of 7nm). Unless you are wanting a lighter bike, or won the lottery and going for the K1600GT/GTL, it's often cheaper to keep her even if maintenance is a bit more expensive (but not much more than any other bike).

I have almost 115K on my bike and the only major thing I have had to do is replace the clutch at 107K and that failed because of the slave cylinder leaking. Engine and final drive are original with no problems. Keep up on the little things and it should go for quite some time.

Just flipped 241k with no major anything. Regular maint and replace worn parts. But no engine, trans, or FD work.

I sold my '00 LT last fall after I bought my '05 model. I wanted one with fewer miles even though the '00 was still as good as the day I bought it with 26K miles 6 years prior. Fewer miles was attractive but mostly I wanted the enhanced features of the newer model. I am pleased with the upgrade as those features are all that I had expected they would be - improved low speed handling, especially.

I started thinking that I was a little naive about what constitutes high miles on an LT when I was contacted by a potential buyer who's then current LT had more than 120K miles on it and was still going strong. Ultimately he decided to keep his bike and I sold mine to a newbie.

My point is, these things will go a lot of miles if they are properly maintained.

Mine is not as experienced as some others, but a few more miles than you. I have 80K on the dial. The only thing that has been done was to have the final drive inspected. They checked all tolerances and then replaced the seal for good measure. Essentially, what was done was not necessary. All service records, from the dealer no doubt, show nothing other than routine maintenance had been performed. Unless you have the itch for something new, there is no reason at all to worry about your ride.

I recently bought mine with 96000 miles and a bad clutch, replaced the clutch, trans seals and rear pivot bearings myself. Just did a 700 mile trip getting 47,48 and 55 mpg per tank..ran above the speed limit, smiling all the way.

I just turned 103 k was planning on replcement at 100 K but changed my mind still runs great getting ready to paint it I think replaced the clutch at 60 also a leaking slave cylinder. Have it torn down now to replace slave cylinder again before it takes out the clutch.

30K miles should give you a bias on the LT. :) or :(

If you like it and have some $ stashed away go buy a new one. You can always sell one later.

My '02 just flipped over 139k. At about 70k the clutch was replaced due to a leaking engine seal. While in there all the seals were replaced as well as the clutch slave with the revised part. Weep holes were also drilled. The only other items have been two radios replaced under warranty, and brake lines replaced with Spieglers after the originals started to leak at about 110k.

Yep! 142,202 miles...original engine(valves checked 3 times and on the second check I corrected the gaps, mostly exhaust valves) and transmission(never been out),Original shifter linkage), original clutch, but did have FD trouble until I bought a used one that had 90,000 miles on it and it's still running fine.

My 2000 LT is about to turn 75K without any major problems. I purchased it used with 58K on the odometer. I change FD oil at every oil change (old FD oil looks as good as new oil, clean and clear). I plan on a major service job being done this winter while cold; however, in Alabama, we hardly have any cold days. I have replaced rear brake cylinder and brake pads on front and rear. Bike runs great and gets an average of 48.6 MPG. Great Bike!!! :wave

184k on my '99 rebuilt FD once, tranny rebuilt once

My 2003 LT has 112k miles, and I have have put every mile on her. My only complaint is I have had three leaks causing clutch failures. The first two were while under warranty and, the last one was on my nickel at 105k. This bike still runs and handles like new, had the chance to take her out for two heats on a race course outside Shelton, Wa last week. This has been an amazing handling and riding machine in all riding conditions. Until I purchased this bike my normal time with a machine would be about 100k then purchase a new one. I still enjoy every mile, so until BMW comes up with a bike more compatible to the LT I'll have to keep riding old silver.

Hey, you might catch me as you have an advantage there in FL. MO roads get a little slippery when the snow flies. The cold doesn't stop me though.

I entered the mileage thingy last year and was 5th in the state of MO, soooooooo , I plan to beat that this year. LOL

6 AM every morning I'm on the bike headed nowhere and back home by 10 AM. YeeHaa!

Wish I could afford to take a long trip. Motels aren't cheap and at my age, (72) I refuse to sleep on a park bench or even a tent. LOL

Wow Saddleman, and the rear suspension is still holding up with all those tools that you carry. And by the way, did you fix that U-Joint at home or did you have to drag out your tools and go for it on the side of the road somewhere? I only ask because I am seriously impressed with your preparedness.
