Well, I have a week off from work and have decided to get out of the snow. I am headed down to some friends in Louisville to do a little riding.

Any suggestions on where to go? I want to see Mammoth caves and maybe hit a distillery or two. I may have to follow the weather!!

Thanks for any help!!

Go south to Bardstown and tour any (several, if you can) of the bourbon distilleries in the area, and elsewhere in the state. Woodford Reserve is our particular favorite -- it's a very small facility, but beautifully rebuilt/restored. The various distillers give different kinds of tours; some take you right in behind the scenes (Woodford), some show you a video and let you look through a door into a warehouse (Jim Beam comes to mind). They are all fascinating, and it's an interesting connection with American history.

In Louisville check out:
  • the international arms museum (I think that is the name)
  • the Louisville Slugger factory tour and museum
  • Churchhill Downs tour and museum
In Frankfort (state capital):
  • self-guided tour of the capitol (a gorgeous building)
  • Kentucky History Center
  • Daniel Boone's grave (up on the big hill overlooking downtown; it's well-marked)
  • the old state capitol
There's so much to see in the area, and within short drives: Patton Museum near Ft. Knox, Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, Red River Gorge, White Hall, Lexington-area horse farms...

+1 on all Howard said.
Good luck with the weather. This time of year it is iffy.

I guess. Severe thunderstorms, hail, and the possibility of tornados!

Not a good day to be on the bike there! Batten down the hatches!

On your way back north, cross the ohio but skip 65 and take IN 150 west to Palmyra, then take 135 north to Nashville, IN, then west on 46 to Bloomington, then SR 45 northeast to BeanBlossom and continue up 135 to Morgantown. Left (W) on 252) til you hit 37. Then you can resume your meanderings north, but you've seen some of the best roads IN has to offer.

I really like the ride on 42 northeast of Louisville through the horse country estates & along the river to Cincinatti as well.

If you go home that way, check out 262 from Rising Sun, IN to Dillsboro as an antidote for I-74 for a bit...

That's the only way David can get out to ride from his neck of the woods this time of year. :thumb:

You got that right. We got 10" of snow last night. My wife may have to use the snow blower!

Well I decided to add Alabama and Mississippi to the states that I've ridden in. the Natchez parkway was awesome, like I had my own road. Over 300 miles today.

As many times that I have rode snowmobiles in Kalkaska 10" of snow would be the perfect amount overnight for the trails. :D

David, glad you survived all of the bad we had Friday; the Nathchez Trace is ok but slow but when you have it to yourself, well that's a different ballgame!

If you are riding back through here let us know and we'll have a room for ya'!

Be safe and enjoy riding :D

We had a mild winter with very little snow. I only rode the sled twice.

Wow!I thought the weather in Michigan was hard to predict. When I came down last week I expected some thunderstorms Friday. The rest of my trip was to be sunny and in the sixties. This isn't what I got! I rode over 400 miles yesterday in my attempt to get as close to louisville as possible before the bad weather hit. I made it to within 90 miles. when I stopped riding last night it was 37 degrees. its now 34 degrees. I'm sure glad I have my cold weather gear. yes I learned my lesson in taking what the weatherman says for the truth!
