I changed my differential oil today. What a PITA.........................................
Anyone have an easy technique to drain and refill?
I need to grease the universal also, so I guess I'll need to find a grease gun with a tight 90 degree nozzle...........
If anyone has found easy solutions please let me know
Thanx

I'll be home in two days from a 20 day 5000 mile trip. How often do you need to change the diff oil and grease the u-joints? What about the u-joints in the half shafts? Do they need grease too?

I change differential fluid yearly................
but there's no drain plug so it took a while to find a suction pump that would work to drain it......
I then put in red Line shock proof with a horse syringe and use a bent pipe cleaner to determine when it's the required 1" below the fill hole.................
The zerk fitting on mine was 90 degrees to the drive shaft and inside the swing arm tunnel.
Only 1" between the tip of the zerk and the wall of the tunnel......................
A few "professionals" tried and said it couldn't be done.................................
I called Hannigan and their tech. said "sometimes they get put in backwards and I don't know how you'd grease it."
I cut a notch in the end of the swingarm housing and filed down a grease gun tip untill..........................Viola ! ...I got it.

Thanks. I was beginning to wonder. I was going to do the diff fluid every 10K but yearly works for me.

I made up a 90 degree tube to suck the fluid out and bent a pipe cleaner to find when fluid was 1" below the hole...............................................................
I did end up notching the end of the swingarm and filing down a grease gun fitting to get the universal greased. I believe this should have been a 45 degree Zerk to solve the problem. Some day I may remove the universal and change that fitting. .....
Looks like the seals for my half shafts are leaking (dampness on the shocks) so This winter I'll have to locate someone who'll change 'em..
