Hi All,

I have just received my k1200lt back from repairs and to my disgust the handlebars were used as anchoring points to transport the bike now the handlebars appear to be moving up and down freely would this be just a case of tightening bolts or is this a case of a new set of handlebars. If the handlebars need tightening can somebody please explain to me how to access the bolts to tighten the handlebars many thanks...Doug

That is very bad that some one did that, any good BMW shop would know not to do that.

You need to remove both side panels and the sting ray just like you were going to remove the fuel tank.

Then you have to remove both handle bar covers (two screws each 3 mm allens) then remove the disc over the center of the bars ( 4 phillips head screws) then you can get to the clamp bolts.

This is pretty involved and I would make the shop that tied it down wrong fix it.

I'm in total agreement with John here, that shop needs to make that right. That's a really stupid mistake.

Yes you would think that the shop would know better. Are you sure that they didn't call a towing company who were the ignorant ones?

This may well be the case, but the shop still owns the problem.

Hi All, and thank you for all your replys.

I had a accident 0n my 2009 K1200lt on the 7th November 2017. Some idiot decided to make a U-turn right in front of me. luckily, I was not riding fast approximately 20 miles an hour in a bus lane (motorbikes can use bus lanes here in the UK if you are wondering) I didn't come off the bike I just collided head on with this idiot and caused front end damage. Anyway, my bike went off to get repaired by (PLANTEC) and in return I received a curtesy motorbike (Suzuki GSF 1250). Now, bike was in repairs from the 7 November 2017 till when I received it on the 26 March 2018..... 4 MONTHS TO REPAIR MY BIKE!!!!!!!!. so to make sure, I called PROTEC and explained to them very very very clearly not to use the bikes handlebars as anchoring points when in transit......So what did they do ......used the handlebars as anchoring points OMG!!!!!!!!! I went biolistic at the driver asking him did he not receive any instructions from the delivery depot not to use the handlebars as anchoring points???? his reply was "I AM A NEW GUY ON THE TEAM" well I thought to myself what kind of company is this I'm dealing with. Anyway, at this point I did not realise my handlebars were so called loose. The driver took my bike from out the back of the van and I noted a yellow sticky note pasted onto my bikes windshield....and the note said>>>>> are you all sitting down???? the note said "the bike wont start due to no petrol" NO PETROL!!!!! WHO WOULD DELIVER A MOTORBIKE FROM THE REPAIR SHOP WITH NO PERTOL????????.. so I could not start the bike to make sure the engine and everything is in a good working order. So I asked my son to pop down to the local garage and fetch some petrol. once I put petrol into the bike I had trouble trying to put the key into the ignition for some reason, the key would not go into the ignition...at that point I realised that the handlebars had been forced down thus raising the plastics around the ignition slightly which mad it difficult to put the key into the ignition. So when I raised the handlebars up the plastics around the ignition all lined up .....At that point I should have said to the driver to take my bike back and make good ...but I don't want to be without my bike for another 4 months. I called PROTEC up and logged a complaint and said to them that I will be taking my bike to reputable BMW specialist to make good their mess up and get PROTEC to pay which they agreed if the price was authorised. So, if you ever have dealings with PROTEC, here in the UK, please be aware that they have no clue or idea about transporting BMW K1200LT....

So all that's my rant over and done with .... on a good note, my bike looks brand new again and I cant wait to get behind the saddle.... many thanks all for your replies :)
