A little birdie gave me the following info (trust me, it's "official" - your dealer has it):

The pre-sale of the GT and GTL begins Dec. 17th and lasts until March 31st. No dealers will get ANY floor sampes of either model until all pre-sold units are delivered.

All pre-sales must be fully loaded (i.e., with ALL options). The only things you can choose are which model you want and which color. And MSRP for the GTL will be "below a comparably equipped" Goldwing, and for the GT will be the same as a comparably equipped 1300GT.

Oh, and
"The first units of the K 1600 GT and K 1600 GTL are expected to arrive to the U.S. in early May."

That is correct Bruce except the memo says the BASE price of the GT will be comparable to the base of the current 13GT. The 16 has MANY more options:)

I guess we'll know the real pricing soon enough...

There is no Gold Wing. Did BMW not get the memo? :)

I think I'll pass this siren call to impulse buy. Been there, done that, you know the first in line to have the brand new model without so much as a demo ride.

Paid premium price and became an undesignated beta tester for the privilege. Three years later the same BMW dealer who wanted the sell me a brand new bike would only give me pennies on the dollar to trade in the "old" bike.

Purchased a "newly new" 2008 R1200RT this past Spring with less than 3000 miles. The $20,000 to $25,000 saved by NOT buying the latest, greatest thing from BMW will pay for all the farkeling and doodads I could want or need for the RT, a trip to Europe with the wife, and the cost of riding the RT . . . for the next ten years :bmw:

Yeah, try and find a GoldWing "comparably equipped" with traction control, ESA, removable GPS, adaptive headlights...

Let me get this right. You say that you saved up to $25,000 by buying a two year old RT? I can buy a brand new RT in Canada for that price so did you get the two year old RT for $00.00. Somehow the math isn't quite working for me. I don't disagree about your aversion to buying new bikes and especially new models. I will look at buying a used 2013 GT. By that time hopefully they will have all the problems worked out and I will be able to own a great bike at a reasonable price.

On my order sheet it says that I am getting LED fog lamps with my blue GTL.
Does anyone have any pictures of them?

Ya mean ya signed on the dotted line without reading the 2,000 page spec with CAD drawings?
Are you sure Nancy isn't connected to this? :histerica :histerica

I got them too.. they are part of package 1 in Canada, which includes ESA, alarm, central locking, LED fog lamps and ground lighting. The switch for them is located next to the hazard button on the left switch cluster. I ordered the engine guard too. I will probably remove the black arm and mount the lights to the engine guard.. with some light mounts that I have kicking around.. or at least i'll screw around and then decide that no, the OEM placement is better.. that's what keeps me occupied during the 3 month winter non riding hiatus. :D

Not the GT seats on the GTL.. you can see the LED lights near the engine.

I have been reading everything that I can find on this bike and it seems to be more my style then the LT that has served me well.
I was a Venture rider when it could handle, before they stuck the name on a oversized cruser.
What I have problems with on the LT is the Cruse Control, the low placement of the mirrors, some of the controls and it is very hard to ride in a funeral escort at the slow speeds that are required.

I thought that these are driving lights.
LED auxiliary headlights
• LED technology for optimum visibility, virtually maintenance-free and wear-free.
• More safety on the road.
• Also offered as an optional extra installed ex-works for the K 1600 GTL.

(After heavy sigh), You missed my point (and the math). I simply pointed out that by not buying a brand new K1600GTL and instead buying a two year old R1200RT, I saved enough money to put every accessory on the RT I could want or need, take a trip to Europe with my wife, and have enough left over to pay for the cost of riding my RT for a long, long time.
If the price in the US is anywhere near the $33,890 euros quoted above, you looking at close to $44,686 for a loaded K1600GTL. Do the conversion. Based on the math, I actually saved close to $34,000.
Hey, I'm not trying to rain on anyone parade. Please step up, put your money down and buy the K1600GTL. I'm eager to hear good things about the bike. I love BMW motorcycles and I love new BMW motorcycles. I just don't love paying the freight to brand the latest thing from BMW. Maybe in three to four years, I'll be in the market for a good used K1600GTL. At the right price, of course. :bmw:
