I am seriously considering a new GTL, and I am curious as to what kind of gas mileage members are getting on their bikes and under what conditions.

I would say an average around 40mpg on the highway at reasonably high speeds but not over 70 mph. The mileage drops rapidly over that speed.

I don't use the rear case much and it does have some effect on mileage, especially at higher speeds.

My rule of thumb is to start looking for convenient gas around 250 miles on the tank.

Unlike the R1200GSA, the fuel gauge is extremely accurate, so around town I don't think much about gas until the low fuel warning comes on.

I run a mix of city/highway, but with more highway. Highway speeds any where from 25 to 85+. I'm averaging about 37 MPG with my GTL. About the same as my old Harley Ultra Classic got, but there are a lot more smiles per mile on the Beemer!

But in general for me, 37. I am almost always in dynamic and enjoying it.

Huge difference between mileage at 70 and at 80. I've also found that raising the windshield costs about 2 mpg at 70+.

At 100 plus it is way down in the low 30's. But below 65 & just cruising I get in the mid 40's all day long.

The numbers above are pretty consistent with the review / comparo article in the May 2012 Rider magazine, which compared the K 1600 GTL vs the Gold Wing GL 1800.

They listed High/Avg/Low as 46.7/41.3/36.0

With the three different throttle settings, 3 different shock damper settings, different terrain and driving styles, I wonder what average means for the GTL.

The GT & GTL are nice machines. Many on this forum are proponents.

Seems to be between ~37 and ~43. Computer says around 300 miles per tank.

I wouldn't expect the throttle mode to directly affect the mileage. Certainly there is an indirect effect, as Rain mode will make it a little harder for your wrist to ruin your mileage, for example.

The throttle mode probably says more about the rider's intent; you probably wouldn't have it in Dynamic if you were just out for a leisurely 65 mph cruise.

Having said that, I tend to leave mine in Dynamic most of the time on the theory that the power is there with a quick flick whenever I want/need it, and I feel like it helps me to be more consistent with my throttle control. I think I'll start trying to use Road a little more and see how that works.

I get mid 40's except when riding the mountains of Colorado, then it is low 50's.
Then there was the one time I got 62. Don't know why that happened except when I started the bike to leave home I did not give it time to go thru it's check out. Wierd stuff happened....no acceleration, GPS would not work, many things on the Wonder Wheel would not work. Shut it off and let it sit for a few minutes. Then turned it back on and let it go thru the check out. Everything worked fine after that....and I got 62 mpg. However, the next time I filled up it was back to mid 40's.
