Not really since the tank is vented (most have removed the canister). The cap can be modified so you don't have to use the key to open it all the time and you still get the "click".

Did you reset the TPS after you did your work? TPS = Throttle Position Sensor.

Turn key to on. Do NOT start engine. Open and close throttle to the stops three times. Turn key off..

Now start engine and see if it's better.. If it still pops then you've got a leak somewhere.

jzeiler,
I own a 2009 K1200LT and am curious how to modify the gas cap so the key is not needed for removal. Thanks

If you're at all handy ,it's a lot easier than it looks in the pics or description.Even I didn't mess it up :wave

More pics. Is easier than it looks. Well worth doing.

WOW That was fast

And a great write up..

I think it took longer to warm up the printer than to finish the mod.

I only had to trim the metal "boss", I did not touch the plastic housing.

I put it all back together and it rotated 180 degrees and it works!

THANKS AGAIN

Ditto!

I've been procrastinating on this task, after reading the post gave it a shot.
Twenty minutes tops, including excavating the dremel tool from a cluttered workbench.
Same experience, was a little more generous with the trim and didn't have to touch the plastic.
