Been running a Shinko Raven (yes, a Shinko Raven) on the front of my LT for the last 3K miles. I had previously used Ravens almost exclusively (front and rear) on my RT. I was warned by some of the "BMWLT.com Elite" that my LT may burst into flames if I used one (kidding, sort of), but I put it on anyway, and so far so good. Great dry and wet grip (relative to the ME880 that was removed), and wear seems good (again only 3K miles on the tire). I will provide a real review once the tire reaches its life limit. I dare you to try one...14wntr said:I have decided to try an Avon AV56 Storm 2 Ultra out in the rear but would like some recommendations regarding the front. What is the best front radial tire you have used on your bike? I am leaning toward the new Road Pilot 3 but am not totally sold on the idea yet. I have heard that the Storm 2's wear funny so there has got to be a better option with high grip and mileage.
I am a fairly aggressive rider and ride 2 up about 50% of the time. If I rated myself on the scale of 1-10 with 1 being only super slab straight up and 10 being wear holes in the lower panels and worn out center and side stands I would put myself currently at a 7.5 running the stock Metzler 880's. I really don't like the tar snakes or doing unintentional burn outs in the rain so am hot on finding a good setup that works for me.
