I don't understand people's desire to "put things right" by clearing someones name after they've been executed. It's not a bad thing, but not worth a lot of effort. You're still dead.
It'd be more useful to figure out why an innocent person was convicted and executed, and fix those things that allowed that. Even after 86 years, there might be something useful to learn.

Saving the "innocent" is what the appeals process is about.
In this case, the guy would have wasted away in a cell and probably died...
On the other hand, if he is "convicted", lock him up and throw away the key. I think they can create a "solitary confinement" where a guy is welded into a box with slots for TP, food, clothing, bedding. If he is found to be innocent, cut the box open, give him restitution and set him free.
If he's been Capitol Murdered then, the "Oops, sorry..." is "too little, too late".
Of course there is not one "DUKE" of a chance there is mis-management in our current system....
Which, BTW, were charges EVER brought against the accuser who lied in the Duke case?
