Guys,

Selling my GL1500 for a 2006 K1200LT I found today. Please tell me if this is a fair offer.

Found a 2006 K1200LT with 22,500 in what appears to be in excellent condition. Comes with a Zumo 450 and a new Corbin(still in original box and never installed) front, rear and trunk wrap around backrest for passenger. All maintenance is current. I intend on having the local BMW dealer do a pre-purchase inspection to verify integrity of the bike as I'm sensitive to final drive and clutch issues that the K1200LT seems prone to.

After a day of negotiations we agreed to $8,800 which I thought was fair. Does this seem reasonable?

Seems like a very good deal to me if the bike is all working without issues. Good luck with the purchase!

Loks like you have a winner!! Also noticed it still has the rubber valve stems. May want to go with metal ones next tire change to be on the safe side. But hang here and read all you can. There is a wealth of info here and alot of "Gee I wish I had known that" hints.

Looks like a great deal Craig! at least visually. One other big plus (don't tell the seller!) is those Pax Floorboards. Your pillion will love them over the standard Foot Pegs.

John, are you saying those passenger floorboards(adjustable height) are not stock? I suspected they weren't and even asked and he said they were stock. He isnt the original owner so he obviously doest know himself.

Just a note to say...I agree to switching to the metal valve stems.

Had a front rubber one dry-rot? on me, and break. No accident, I was just getting off the slab, in no-where Iowa....late on a Sat afternoon. 2 1/2 days wasted & $130.00 tow & repair.

Yep, that's what I'm saying Craig. I paid around $700 or so in 2000 for those Pax Floorboards when I bought my LT new! I don't believe they were ever offered as a standard item, but things may have changed over the years. Either way, they offer adjustability which is not there with the Footpegs!

Looks like a good find. It doesn't appear to have an intercom system installed...

So she goes to BMW tomorrow for an evaluation. If it gets a clean bill of health I'm buying it!! Will follow up tomorrow night.

Like everyone says, looks like a pretty good deal.
From the pics, the bike is really clean. Take this into consideration w/ the year model, and low mileage, your awareness of the maintenance being current, I'd say get on it and test ride it. If you're a veteran rider, than you should be able to ascertain the mechanical soundness of it w/o paying a dealership to tell you what you probably already know or can figure out for yourself. Paying the dealer just makes the deal that must less of a deal.

But you do whatever makes you feel good. I, personally, have never had a shop or dealer inspect my potential purchases. :wave

BTW, looks like there's a LEO's bike in garage. If so, then that's probably a good sign as well as telling you he's taken care of his stuff.

Jeff,

You have a keen eye. Yes the seller is a retired LEO. He is very particular with his stuff. I did have the local BMW store evaluate it this morning and gave it a clean bill of health with the exception of the rear pre-load adjuster knob being sticky??? It was worth the small fee to me having them evaluate the bike for piece of mind. In addition I ascertained the service history so I have documentation illustrating everything and there are no open recalls. The BMW dealer in Odessa, FL is fantastic. Great bunch of people.

I brought the bike home tonight. There is so much I want to do. So many questions...I dont know where to start. I think first order of business is selling the Goldwing.

Couple of rookie questions already.

When I shut off the bike and pull the key out the radio and GPS are still powered on. If I turn the key all the way to the left to shut everything off I cant remove the key. What am I doing wrong?

Also, seems like the bike has some vibration at idle. No terrible but noticable. Mind you I'm coming off an electric smooth Goldwing flat six. Is this typical?

Congratulations on your purchase. Looks like a very fine ride.

I can't answer your questions w/ certainty because I only get to ride mine every six months. :( and I forget what I was doing yesterday. :eek:

My HDs have steering locks, and the key acted the same way in that position if I didn't have the forks turned far enough for the lock to insert.

If you turn the key from run to off (not sure of actual lettering), the radio and GPS will stay on. I think the grip and/or seat heaters go off, but not knowing for sure, I always switch them off. The map light will still work, as will the light in the top case. If you turn the key to lock and the bars are all the way to the left (not sure about right), the key can be removed. If you move it past "L" (I think), to "P", the key may not come out and there is a little light bulb in the low beam housing that comes on. This is the parking light. Putting the key in the "L" position powers down everything but the memory on the radio.

Welcome to the forum. Ask questions. We'll answer them. I've been there, had the questions, now know a couple of the answers! :D What I don't know, I'll make up! :histerica

Thanks for the explanation on the key operation guys. I'll try not to ask too many more questions until I read the owners manuals. So much to learn!!!

One will probably note some small bit of vibration at idle, certainly compared to a flat-six, as this is after all, a four.

Smooth at highway speeds until a bit of buzz in mine at 85-90 mph which goes away at 90+ or so I've been told ...

Just ensure your front wheel is straight when you are applying the brakes at <3 mph.

She looks like a beauty and I think you did well, the Zumo the floorboards are certainly nice.

Great bike & price! Welcome to the forum.

Please verify that the fuel quick connectors have been updated to the metal QC's. I believe there is a silent recall on this. Fire hazard, very important!
Seems like the bike just needs to be rode. 22K on an 06 is nothing, get out and ride her hard I'll bet the idle vibration disappears.

That recall was silent? Haven't heard anything about it. Where do I get the info?
