Just purchased a 2009 K1200LT, 5994 miles, many toys but not Garmin Navigator (though have the proprietary connections and hope to find a way to wire in a regular Garmin Nuvi. Most comfortable motorcycle I have ever owned, getting used to the size and may name him Orson. Started out with airheads and worked my way to K bikes and oil heads but decided that at 61 it was time for comfort-(my back agrees). Black w/Pewter (SP?). and hope to put many miles on the machine though i'm in the doghouse for trading in my R1200GS as my significant other thought I should have done something else with the money (even after I told her about the stereo and heated seat!!-some women just lack a sense of humor). In any case, I'm a Forensic Psychologist and the bike is my therapist. Just got my 18 year membership card from MOA. Any suggestions or words of wisdom are welcome!

Regards,

Will

Welcome - You have purchased a great motorcycle.

Check out the "Halls of Wisdom" for several nights of good reading. There is a wealth of information acquired from some of the smartest and most interesting people you could ever meet.

A cool feature of this forum is the ability to ask a question and find several answers in the "Similar Threads" feature near the bottom of the page.

The bike is top heavy...... Doesn't stop easily with the front wheel turned!

welcome again to the zoo....

+1 on what Dan said, except I think calling it an asylum may be more fitting.

Always come to a stop with the front wheel facing directly forward.
Don't try and make a turn at a snail's pace until you have quite a bit of experience stopping the big girl.
Don't ride with the windshield down until that grin from riding your new LT turns into just a smile.

Aaaaah!! I forgot the most obvious, she really sings at 6 or 7K. I took me a while to get used to running her rpms higher than I was used to with every other vehicle I've ridden/driven.

Are the spedos on the newer LT's still off by design? My era speedos were designed to read around 9% higher than actual speed.

Great bike, great year and great color . . .
I have an '09 also so welcome. I have enjoyed mine from day one (day 825 but who counting) :histerica As for that wide :D it's nothing a full face helmet can't cure. Cause when you flip it up the :D is still there. Enjoy.

welcome to one of the best bikes around! I also have a new to me 05 that only has 6K and needs breaking in! I quickly found out about the cheap fuel quick disconnects in the fuel line when they started leaking. Decided to replace with better quality aftermarket pieces and what the hell, had them change all fluids and new tires! Going on first ride tomorrow for the weekend up in Shanendoah Mts and maybe WVA. So if anyone sees a gold K1200 with a huge smile above the windshield wave hello! Again enjoy the great bike!
