I guess it had to happen sooner or later. I've been riding BMWs now for 25 years and just had my first breakdown. Was riding my 03 LT from Lake George NY to my home in Fayetteville NC yesterday and developed a fuel leak in NJ. Was able to make it to Richmond VA before the fuel leak become to great to continue. My wife was nice enough to come get me. I guess it's time for my first tuperware party.

Glad the you got home safe. I have a fuel leak also but mine developed in the driveway. Ordered metal quick disconnects, should be here soon. Good news is my 30k maintenance is due so I'll knock it all out at once. Good luck to ya.

Mine did that on my very first rode trip 180 miles from home. A 5/16 brass double barb and two fuel injection rated clamps will make a good temporary fix. The QDs are underneath the right side tip-over wing and are pretty simple to fix. That's probably the leak source if your right leg/boot got soaked.


On the bright side you didn't need the use of the local fire department.

Same thing happened to me in KY on my first trip on my way home. Fixed it in a auto parts store parking lot. Used a 5/16 steel fuel filter. That was my first time removing any of the tupperware.

It's the infamous disconnects on the fuel line.

This is total bull from BMW. I'm so mad about this. I love BMW's but this would never come from Honda.

Just about everyone has a problem with the QD's leaking gas, why doesn't BMW use a higher quality QD?

Ugh!

The do now. They tell my you can't buy the plastic male ends any more.

Think of it as "personality". :D That and the pin-hole leaks in the front master cylinder brake line are the two biggest nuisance items with the bike. If your brake line goes, just fix it with a Spiegler kit and be done with it. It's a great machine. You could always trade her for a GW but then you'ld be setting on Hilary Clinton instead of Hilary Swank. Now there's an easy choice. ;)

I just installed fuel line QDs on my 2000 LT when I did the last major service, my bike didn't have them. I used the new all metal male and female parts and they should be fine.

If you still have the plastic ones get rid of them, it's just a matter of time until they fail.

Thanks guys. I knew I wasn't the first and won't be the last. I'll get my new QDs on order ASAP. I thought I might take the time to look to see first for sure but sounds as though I have joined the ranks of all those who have already experienced this issue. If I run in to a problem I may get up with you NCrider. I appreciate the offer.

No problem. Not that I have knowledge of it... haven't had this problem yet. But I can generally hold tools, loosen things, get drinks, point out the error of your ways... you know, helpful stuff. :D Just let me know, would be glad to help.

Now there's a mental picture I could have done without.

I got the Tupperware off with out a hitch. Placed key in ignition and the moment I put the switch to the on position I got a steady stream of fuel hitting me in the leg. The dreaded quick disconnect was the culprit as everyone suspected. The new ones should be here next week.

Isnt this place "Priceless" ?

Me, I did them the first time I took her cloths off.

As you see these guys know their stuff.

Glad you got it squared away.

I am not sure I understand. If the 2000 LT does not have QD then why install them, since they have shown to be a problem?
