While attending college in NYC, I would see this several times each month. It usually involved a car with DPL plates, and would be real close to an embassy. Once, I was lucky enough to see the NYFD arrive and get to attach their hoses.
It was NOT a pretty sight!!!
A MB 500-class sedan. I would be less than honest if I did not say that it sure looked like the FD was having a good time. They took out EVERY window in the car! Even managed to miss the windows a few times, swinging the axes. Also managed to "drip" maybe 100 gallons of water into the car while taking the hoses out.
The really sad part is that NYC has agreed to replace/repair any vehicles damaged by NYC employees. This was a long time ago (1965?), so things may have changed, but DPL plates on the streets of NY were the same as painting a target on the side!
