For my body, there are significant differences between riding positions on the GT and the GTL. I'm sure a 1-2 hour ride on a GTL would start the dreaded neck pain that plagued me on the LT. However, the riding position on a GT allows a very slight forward lean that the GTL does not - very similar to my K12GT - with no neck pain.

So for your future enjoyment of the bike, please don't look at the GT and the GTL as just a choice between standard accessories. For my body, the riding positions are vastly different. For an all-day ride I could ride a GT, but not the GTL.

And I was just the opposite. I went to a lot of trouble to get rid of the leaned-forward position on my Slant/4 GTs, and am very happy with the riding position of my GTL. Now I did add a Russell seat and my custom back rest, but the first time I sat on a GTL my hands and feet just fell into place.

That's why it's good to have choices . . .

Good advice. For me, it is just the oppossite in the GT vs GTL conundrum. The GT had a riding position very similar to the R1200RT when I rode it. Due to an old injury, I always got muscle pain from the left trapezius when riding the RT for more than a couple hours. The more relaxed position of the GTL allows me to ride all day without a twitch.
